Boise State Big East: Broncos Would Be a Welcome Sight for Big East

The Big East has endured a wealth of criticism throughout the years, particularly because the conference holds an automatic BCS berth every season despite failing to produce elite programs for the most part.

Last season, the inclusion of Connecticut into the Fiesta Bowl was widely mocked, made worse by the Huskies' 48-20 loss to Oklahoma.

This season, the Big East has produced one Top-25 team, No. 24 West Virginia.

That's why the news that Boise State, along with Houston, SMU and UCF, could be added as Big East members as soon as Friday may mark a shift in the conference's standing in America.

By including No. 5 Boise State, No. 13 Houston and No. 25 SMU, the conference won't be looked at the same way. You go from having one legitimate Top-25 team to four all within a matter of days.

That's why Big East fans should be thrilled with the news, as well as fans of Boise State, Houston and SMU.

Now, when a team wins the Big East, it would be considered a big accomplishment. Now, if Boise State and Houston go undefeated in the future, they may actually have a shot at the BCS Championship Game.

It's fitting that Houston is being included in the conference because the Cougars were being called the new version of Boise State, a team with an undefeated record yet virtually no chance of making it to the title game.

And, honestly, even if this means West Virginia will have a tough time winning the conference in the future, WVU fans should happy, too, because this single-handedly boosts respect for the program, pitted against top competition.

It's worth noting that Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, who has been a big part of Boise State's rise, will be declaring for the NFL draft after this season, so there's the potential of the Broncos sinking.

But I don't believe this will happen. Chris Petersen is one of the best head coaches in college football, regardless of what conference he plays in. The Broncos had been dominating for years in the WAC before Moore came along.

If Boise State does enter the conference, this changes the Big East in ways fans could only dream of.
