UFC Undisputed 3: 10 Possible Secret Fighters
Right, Up, Left, Right, Down, Left, Up, Right, Down, Left, X, Y, Y, X, Start...
If you pressed in that combination on the main menu screen of UFC Undisputed 2010, you got the playable character of Shaquille O'Neal in the Heavyweight Division. Shaq is known to be a huge UFC fan and had the physique and popularity to be in the game as a secret character.
UFC 3 will be coming out in three-and-a-half months, which should be enough time to add in a downloadable or in-game secret character. Here is a list of 10 potential athletes/actors who may make the cut.
(Sidenote: UFC 3 comes out on Valentines Day, I suggest getting a girlfriend soon and dropping hints at her pre-ordering it for you.)
Chad Ochocinco
1 of 11Bio: Wide receiver for the New England Patriots, six-time Pro-Bowler, known for outlandish interviews, touchdown celebrations, and general behavior.
Reason to be in the game: Mr. Ochocinco has used Youtube and his Twitter account to call out several UFC fighters including Anderson Silva, Tito Ortiz and George St. Pierre. This is seen by many as a cry for attention, but Ochocinco has trained in boxing and may just be crazy enough to step into the octagon someday. He also has the build and popularity to be in the game as its second crossover athlete.
Weightclass: Both Middle and Welterweight.
Style: Boxing
Tim Thomas
2 of 11Bio: Goaltender for the Boston Bruins, three-time All Star, won the Vezina, Conn Smythe, and Stanley Cup last season.
Reason to be in the game: Tim Thomas doesn't have any training in MMA, but he has been a long time follower of the sport. Thomas became a fan from renting VHS tapes of the first UFC's. He even named his dog 'Griffin' after fighter Forrest Griffin. A hockey player character may not be very popular in the states, but would be well known by Canadian fans, who are the UFC's biggest market.
Weightclass: Light-Heavyweight
Style: Wrestling/Brawler
Jason Statham
3 of 11Bio: Action movie superstar, starred in "The Expendables," "Crank," and "Snatch."
Reason to be in the game: Many fans of the UFC are most likely crossover fans of Statham's movies and his stunts in the films. He is very athletic, having been a former olympic level diver, and has done some mixed martial arts as a 'hobby.' Statham is also only 5' 9'', and would fit in well with the game as a small, but quick fighter.
Weightclass: Lightweight
Style: Boxing/Brawler
CM Punk
4 of 11Bio: Former WWE/World Heavyweight Champion, "Voice of the Voiceless," Currently #1 in WWE Merchandise Sales.
Reason to be in the game: Many WWE fans know that CM Punk is beginning to be a new face and star of the company. Unlike others associated to wrestling, Punk is a big fan of UFC, and has a lot of respect for mixed martial arts in general, incorporating kicks and submissions into his move-set. UFC has lent Brock Lesnar's image to the new WWE '12 video game, WWE could easily lend Punk's image to UFC 3. Punk's character could also show off the new entrances in UFC 3.
Weightclass: Light-Heavyweight
Style: Muay-Thai, Jiu-Jitsu
Kevin James
5 of 11Bio: Popular Comedian, starred in the TV show "King of Queens," and the movie "The Zookeeper."
Reason to be in the game: Kevin James seems like an average UFC fan. The only difference being his celebrity helped immerse him into the UFC in several ways. There is a Youtube video of him legitimately rolling with Randy Couture, he has been interviewed by Joe Rogan at UFC events, and he is good friends with legendary fighter Bas Rutten. James also begins shooting a film where he becomes a UFC fighter early next year. James can be seen at many UFC events showing his interest and support in MMA.
Weightclass: Heavyweight
Style: Greco-Roman Wrestling
Michael Clarke Duncan
6 of 11Bio: Famous American actor, starred in "The Green Mile," "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," and "Daredevil."
Reason to be in the game: It's hard to watch any UFC pay-per-view without seeing Michael Clarke Duncan in the crowd. One, because he goes to most of them, and two, because he towers over everyone else in the crowd. Duncan is a great fan of the UFC and has tons of respect for all the fighters. He has even been known to train at the Gracie Academy in California, and the trustworthy internet says he has a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He would definitely be a scary opponent in the game.
Weightclass: Heavyweight
Style: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Joe Rogan
7 of 11Bio: Stand up comedian, host of "Fear Factor," long-time commentator for the UFC.
Reason to be in the game: Joe Rogan has been apart of the UFC in some way since 1997. He is a comedian, but is also a very in-depth analyst and commentator during pay-per-views and other UFC events. Rogan is also a practitioner of MMA, accomplishing a brown belt in jiu-jitsu, a green belt in judo, a black belt in taekwondo, and a 3-0 kickboxing record. Past rumors included Rogan stepping into the octagon with another celebrity martial artist, Wesley Snipes. The only thing that doesn't make sense with Rogan in the game, is that he would be commentating his own fight.
Weightclass: Lightweight
Style: Kickboxing, Jiu-Jitsu
Chuck Norris
8 of 11Bio: Action movie star, former Karate Champion, subject of many "facts." (Two actual facts, Norris is 71 years old and his real name is Carlos)
Reason to be in the game: Chuck Norris is (for better or worse) an American icon. He has starred in numerous movies, television shows, and exercise equipment commercials. Despite his PG image, he really was a true badass having an eighth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and is in the World Karate Union Hall of Fame. If Norris had been born at the right time, he could very well have been in the UFC today.
Weightclass: Middleweight
Style: Karate
Mike Tyson
9 of 11Bio: Former heavyweight boxing champion (youngest of all-time), comedically depicted himself in both "Hangover" movies.
Reason to be in the game: Tyson is a respectful fan of the UFC. He has been on the Ultimate Fighter and is considered a friend of Dana White's. Tyson has stated a boxer would be a great MMA fighter if he learned to grapple. Tyson is one of the most well known people on this list, and being a boxing legend, it would give the chance for gamers to play as a true boxer versus the best in the UFC.
Weightclass: Heavyweight
Style: Boxer
Bas Rutten
10 of 11Bio: Former UFC Heavyweight Champion, three-time King of Pancreas, former commentator for Pride FC.
Reason to be in the game: Bas Rutten, a.k.a. El Guapo, is a living legend of the mixed martial arts world. His leg kicks and liver punches are some of the most feared strikes in MMA. Despite destroying many different opponents, Rutten is also one of the nicest and most charismatic people in the business. Many think that his career ended too soon, and the video game would be an artificial way of seeing him compete against today's stars. However, since he is commentating for the Pride Mode of this game, he has the same trouble as Rogan in that he'd be commentating his own fights.
Weightclass: Heavyweight
Style: Kickboxing
