NFL Week 9 Picks: 2 Teams Sure to Enjoy Blowout Wins

Ryan PhillipsNov 1, 2011

While it has been almost impossible to predict what will happen in the NFL this season, the schedule for Week 9 offers two games that are sure to result in blowouts for the winning squad.

Both the Houston Texans and the Oakland Raiders should have no trouble dispatching their foes this weekend.

The Texans have found a groove again, as they unleashed a savage 41-7 beating on the Tennessee Titans in Week 7 before knocking off the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-14 in Week 8.

This Sunday, the Texans will welcome the stumbling Cleveland Browns (3-4) to town and it could get ugly in Reliant Stadium in Houston.

The Browns enter the game sporting the NFL's 26th-ranked offense, with an average of 305.7 yards per game. Quarterback Colt McCoy hasn't matured as expected, and his quarterback rating of 76.4 ranks 26th out of the 33 players who qualify.

Opposing that stumbling offense will be a surprising Houston defense that is allowing just 286.6 yards per game, which ranks third in the league. Meanwhile, the Texans balance their defensive attack with a prolific offense that is gaining 395.3 yards per game (seventh in the NFL).

Thanks to the return of a healthy Arian Foster, the Texans have been able to make do without star receiver Andre Johnson, who remains out with an injured hamstring. Behind Foster, Houston has the league's fourth-ranked rushing attack, averaging 141.9 yards per game.

All of those things add up to what should be a dominant performance by the Texans on Sunday.

Houston has put itself back on the map in the AFC title chase after a few stumbles early on and at 5-3 the Texans are a team to look out for.

The Oakland Raiders are currently 4-3 and tied atop the AFC West with the San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs.

The team had a bye week to recover from an embarrassing 28-0 loss to the Chiefs and should be ready to bounce back against the 2-5 Denver Broncos, which will visit the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Sunday.

The Broncos are coming off a horrible performance in Week 8 in which quarterback Tim Tebow was exposed as simply not ready for the NFL.

Tebow just looked awful in the team's 45-10 blowout loss to the Lions on Sunday and I don't expect things to get any better for him this weekend.

While the Raiders may be without running back Darren McFadden and new quarterback Carson Palmer's knowledge of the team's offense probably won't be complete yet, the Raiders should have no trouble dispatching the Broncos.

Palmer is a pro and I'm sure he used the bye week to get as far up to speed as humanly possible, and backup RB Michael Bush is capable of carrying the load in McFadden's absence.

I think the Raiders will be too much for Denver to handle at this point in the season. They will start to put the game away comfortably late in the third quarter.
