But coach Scott Radker wonders what’s going to happen when they put it on against the Sagamore Athletic Conference’s highest-scoring team Friday night.
North Montgomery resumes conference play at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Tri-West, but Radeker expects the Chargers to be ready for the challenge - especially with their defense becoming more stingy every week.
“We are getting better with our defense and I am happy with where we are right now,” he said. “We have been working hard on stopping penetration and forcing teams to kick the ball out and against Tri-West that is very important.”
North Montgomery (2-1, 1-0 SAC) has won five-straight games against the Bruins, including last year’s 74-46 victory. Tri-West’s last win over the Chargers came in 2002.
Radeker knows North Montgomery will be challenged by Tri-West’s (1-2, 1-1 SAC) high-scoring offense, which is averaging 70 points each outing.
Radeker said the Chargers’ defense is playing well right now. After allowing Class 4A Noblesville to put up 74 against them in a season-opening loss, they held county- and conference rival Southmont and Fountain Central to below 40 points last weekend.
Southmont finished with 38, while Fountain Central had 37.
Defending the dribbling penetration will be important against the Bruins.
Radeker said Tri-West junior Randall Lowe will take the ball to the basket and defending him will be a key in the game.
