BCS Rankings: Oklahoma State and Teams That Will Benefit from Alabama vs. LSU

T.J. McaloonNov 1, 2011

The Alabama and LSU result will send shockwaves through the BCS standings. The winner of the game will be in the best position to finish the regular season as the No. 1 team in the BCS standings. While the loser will take a tumble down the standings, missing on their chance to play for the national title.

With a loss to either Alabama or LSU it will open the door for these teams to stake their claim as one of the contenders for the National Championship.

No. 3 Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State has the most to gain out of any team in this BCS from the outcome of the Alabama and LSU game.

However, they have to win against No. 14 Kansas State first to reap any rewards that may come from the Alabama/LSU game.

A win for Oklahoma State will move the Cowboys into the No. 2 spot, where they will stay for the remainder of the regular season if they continue to win. As, currently Oklahoma State sits in third with .9310 points compared to No. 2 Alabama’s .9591 and No. 1 LSU’s .9734.

No. 4 Stanford

Stanford will move into the third spot in the next BCS standings from the result of the LSU and Alabama game. The Cardinal’s have had an impressive year, and are led by the best player in college football in quarterback Andrew Luck.

Stanford will need some help though from teams like Kansas State and Oklahoma in the Big 12 if they want to play for the BCS national championship game.

Right now in the BCS standings, the Cardinal’s sit at .8615 to Oklahoma State’s .9310. It may not look like that much, as the teams sit .0695 apart from each other, but in the BCS that is a very large margin that the Cardinal’s will not be able to recover from.

No. 5 Boise State

Boise State will gain a lot from the loser of the Alabama/LSU game, but if the game is a close contest, with each team trading the lead multiple times, the Broncos may not improve their standings by that much.

Yes, they will still move up from No. 5 to No. 4, but the margin between themselves and the loser of the game will not be that much.

Right now, Boise State has .8522 but if Alabama or LSU moves into the No. 5 spot after the game on Saturday, they should have a point total of .8000-.8500, with each team having a game remaining on their schedule against a ranked opponent.

These three teams have a lot to gain from Saturday’s end result. But no matter what happens on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, there is still a lot of football left to play, as any positive improvement in the next polls can be erased the next week.
