Floyd Mayweather: Best Of The Best

By traditional standards, boxing matches are designed for a top contender to challenge a champion. As is in this case, a new and proved welterweight prize fighter has risen to the list.

Within the line of champions, taking this challenge, is fighter fairly new to the welterweight class. Just back from the first defeat of his career, to the retired Floyd Mayweather Jr, is Ricky Hatton.

Worst-case scenario for Hatton would be a defeat. If this would be the case, new Welterweight Champion Paquiao would be more than qualified to be the top contender against Floyd Mayweather Jr. 

A rumor of a possible Antonio Margarito vs. Paquiao bout has been swirling, but Paquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. seems more possible. My perspective is that Mayweather will prove one more time to the boxing world that he is the undisputed, undefeated welterweight champion.

It should be just another day at the office, a “Honey, I’ll pick up the kids after school” type of thing. But Paquiao could still give him a story to tell his family over dinner.

Boxing fans are just one part of the victory Mayweather needs to maintain his undisputed champion status. He also needs to win the favor of the judges.

Most boxing fans that saw his fight against Castillo chose Castillo as the winner. I wonder if Mayweather realized that?

Unless he is just an opportunist, a boxer’s announcement to retire should be taken with a grain of salt.

Mark my words, Mayweather will come back and prove himself again. The entire world loves the class, courage, heritage, and sportsmanship of boxing, no matter who the contenders are.

In this scenario it would be an understatement to call these champions contenders. This match could be another Castillo vs. Corrales fight—an unforgettable bout.

My analysis is based on their styles. Mayweather is a genius with his defense. Paquiao is an optimistic, all-out kamikaze with reasonable defense.

Paquiao might not make it through the entire fight, but don’t get your hopes up, Mayweather.
