BCS Rankings: Penn State and Teams with Chance to Crack Top 10

Through three editions of the BCS standings, teams like the Penn State Nittany Lions are not being represented correctly in the polls. 

These teams only have one loss on the season, or are undefeated, but do not get the respect in the latest poll because they play in a conference that is “weaker” than the other BCS conferences. 

This week, these teams that were disrespected in the polls last week by not appearing in the Top 10, will move up once the next BCS standings are revealed next week. 

No. 16 Penn State Nittany Lions (7-1)  

Penn State has one loss this season that happened in the second week of the college season, to the No. 2 team in the BCS in Alabama. Put that into comparison with another one-loss team, the Oregon Ducks, that lost a week earlier to the No. 1 LSU Tigers. The Ducks are ranked at No. 8 and have been in or around the Top 10 since that loss to LSU .

But, for some reason Penn State continues to struggle to find a way back into the BCS title picture, only because they are not as gifted on offense like Oregon is.  

This week, they are idle, but have a chance to move into the Top 10, with potential losses to Clemson, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Kansas State. 

No. 13 Houston Cougars (8-0) 

Houston will continue to be the team that is forgotten about when there are discussions as who is the best team in the BCS standings. They will get left behind for one-loss teams like Oklahoma, Arkansas, South Carolina, Nebraska and Clemson.  

Yet, Houston should be considered right there with them, as one of the best teams, as they have the best passing attack in college football.  

Last week, against Rice, Houston QB Case Keenum threw for nine touchdowns. Yes, you read that correctly, he had nine touchdowns in one game, while throwing for 534 yards.  

Houston is the highest scoring team in college football today and would be a great team to watch in a BCS bowl like the Sugar Bowl in the Superdome, where their fans can make the trip and the offense can shine on the turf. 

These two teams have been getting disrespected by the BCS voters since the first polls came out three weeks ago. With losses to a lot of teams this week, the voters will have no choice but to put these two teams into the Top 10 next week.
