WWE Survivor Series 2011: John Cena and The Rock Can't Work Together
The way you build to a great feud in wrestling is either a slow burn building to a huge payoff match on pay-per-view, or having each wrestler hate each other, with the blow off being a bloody brawl on pay-per-view. But the one way you do not build towards an epic match, like the one between John Cena and The Rock at WrestleMania XXVIII, is having them work as a team.
For the better part of the past seven months, the thought of John Cena and The Rock has been on many people’s minds, but has been pushed into the back burner for other stories.
But, when this feud started, it opened with each wrestler taking shots at each other. John Cena would call out the Rock for selling out and heading to Hollywood, where as The Rock pointed out to Cena that his legion of fans were little kids and females.
Cena hated that The Rock would come back to the WWE, say that he was committed to the business, then jet back off to a movie set. Cena had some good points, as even though Cena has made a few movies, he still stays loyal to the World Wrestling Entertainment, unlike The Rock.
However, The Rock still has his fans; primarily males aged 18-34, who boo Cena at every chance they get. Rock pointed out Cena’s rainbow colored t-shirts, hats and wristbands. Rock pointed out that the crowd who chanted, “Let's go Cena” was primarily little kids, while their chants would get drowned out by, “Cena Sucks!”
The way that this feud was building was going perfectly, as even on Twitter they would take pot shots at each other.
Yet now, when Cena was given a chance to pick any wrestler to help him in his Survivor Series match against The Miz and R-Truth, it should have been written that Cena chose anyone else but The Rock.
Instead, the feud that was building towards hatred now has derailed into two wrestlers that respect each other.
The WrestleMania match will be great and it will headline the show. It’s just a shame that now that hatred will be gone, just so the WWE can make an extra buck on Survivor Series.
