Ahmad Bradshaw Injury: Updates on Giants Star's Week 9 Status and Fantasy Value

Adam WellsOct 31, 2011

The New York Giants have featured a two-headed monster at running back for the last five seasons, but one of those monsters, Ahmad Bradshaw, is dealing with a foot injury that caused him to miss parts of Sunday's victory against the Miami Dolphins

Bradshaw has been a solid producer for the Giants and fantasy owners with 440 yards and five touchdowns this season. He has not been as consistent as you would like, but overall he is an effective running back.

We will have all the latest information on Bradshaw's status and fantasy value for Week 9 against the New England Patriots, so check back to this page for all the news about the Giants running back as it becomes available.

Update: Saturday, Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m. ET by Ryan Rudnansky

Ahmad Bradshaw, along with teammates Hakeem Nicks and Davis Baas, did not travel with Giants to Foxboro and will miss Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter:

Bradshaw, as always, has been a weapon as a running back and a receiver out of the backfield this season for the Giants. Backup Brandon Jacobs, who has been complaining about his role on the team, will get his opportunity to shine as the feature back on Sunday.

Update: Thursday, Nov. 3 at 5:00 p.m. EST

There was some confusion earlier about Bradshaw's status for this week's game against New England. The first report was that the running back would miss this game and likely need surgery.

Now, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted that someone close to Bradshaw believes that he will be able to play this week.

After so much confusion, it appears that Bradshaw will be on the field against New England. How much he plays and how effective he is remain to be seen.

Update: Thursday, Nov. 3 at 12:50 p.m. EST

It turns out that Ahmad Bradshaw's foot injury is much worse than originally reported and he is definitely out this week against New England.

From Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger:

"

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw suffered a cracked bone in his foot during Sunday's game against the Dolphins and is out indefinitely, according to someone informed of Bradshaw's health status.

The person, who requested anonymity because the Giants haven't provided full details on Bradshaw's injury, said the fifth-year veteran is mulling whether to have corrective surgery...

"

This is a big blow to the Giants, who now have to turn to Brandon Jacobs and D.J. Ware. Fantasy owners will also have to look for another option, at least for the time being because it doesn't sound like he is coming back anytime soon.

Update: Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 11:45 a.m. EST

Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger tweeted that Bradshaw is not practicing today. He is still listed as questionable for Sunday's game against New England.

Considering that Brandon Jacobs is more concerned about his "hot-ass car" that was delivered on Tuesday than of actually trying to produce on the field,  Bradshaw's presence becomes even more critical for the Giants.

While it is still early enough in the week for him to get healthy in time for the game, the fact that he is still sore is a cause for concern.

Update: Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 1:55 p.m. EDT -- Tim Daniels

CBS Sports lists Bradshaw as questionable for Sunday's game against New England and discuss the Giants' potential options if their lead back misses the game. Unless the pain subsides, it will be tough for Bradshaw to play on Sunday.

"

Hopefully, Bradshaw is just day to day and has a chance to play Week 9. He returned to the game Week 8 and appeared fine as he finished out the game. But this might just be a case for the Giants to rest him and not risk further damage. If Bradshaw is up, then you are going to start him in Fantasy, so stay tuned. Brandon Jacobs and D.J. Ware would pace the rushing attack if Bradshaw is out.

"

This will more than likely be a game-time decision unless his condition changes significantly over the next few days. Keep checking back for updates.

Monday, Oct. 31 at 4:52 p.m. EST

Even though Ahmad Bradshaw's performance against Miami got worse as the game moved along, he did not feel like his foot was a big problem and it should not prevent him from playing in Week 9:

"

“I got a screw in my right fifth metatarsal maybe two years ago,” he said. “I think just the head is aggravating right now. I think I’ll be fine; I just kind of fell on it. I think it’s just the insertion point. It’s just a little sore right now.”

"

Bradshaw's head coach Tom Coughlin said that Bradshaw is a little sore right now but did not go into detail.

Friday, Nov. 5 at 1:17 p.m. EDT

Michael Fabiano is reporting that Bradshaw is officially listed as doubtful.

The word "doubtful" pretty much speaks for itself. It doesn't indicate that Bradshaw has much of a chance of playing. If he does, don't count on much of a performance.
