College Football Recruiting 2012: 5 Wavering Recruits Ready to Bail
Predicting a decommitment is always very, very tough. But there are some prospects that show signs of wavering in their commitment and look primed to back on out.
For this read, I'm going to give you five recruits, who, based on their actions and what they're saying, show signs of a potential bail out from their commitments. I'm not saying these players will decommit, I'm just saying they are showing signs of wavering.
Let's waver to the side of getting started.
5. Tee Shepard, DB
1 of 5Shepard is a DB that is committed to Notre Dame. In fact, he was on the do it big recruiting weekend Notre Dame had for the USC game on October 22nd.
Shepard likes the Irish, but now there is a minor line of doubt, as it appears he will take a trip to Arizona State, according to Scott Kennedy.
While a decommitment may be a stretch here, being pledged to a school for so long and then opting to take a trip is a sign of some wavering.
4. Darreus Rogers, WR
2 of 5Now, Rogers is a player that I would be worried about if I were USC. First, he plays a position where you already have a wealth of young talent at in the WR position.
He's committed to stay home and play in Troy, but Rogers will take visits to Arizona State, SMU, Hawaii and Miami, along with USC.
He's almost like a soft verbal right now, and those are never ideal. He's wavering and could bail out if he gets scared away by the depth chart and has a fabulous visit to another school.
3. Dante Fowler, DE
3 of 5Fowler keeps saying he's solid to Florida State, but nobody really believes him. Why, you ask?
Because he's scheduled to be at Florida more times than Florida State this fall on various unofficial visits. Fowler has constantly flirted with the Gators and even has said in the past that he was going to commit to UF if Urban Meyer hadn't retired.
I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Fowler sign with Florida and not Florida State or NSD.
2. Jameis Winston, QB
4 of 5Now, with Winston, it doesn't seem like he's ready to bail, but where there's smoke there's fire. In the summer, he committed to FSU over Alabama and LSU and seemed locked down to the 'Noles.
But Winston has taken a couple unofficials to Tuscaloosa and will likely take an official trip there. This is huge news because Winston is an Alabama native and the local pressure may be causing him to waver.
I'm sure the community and state will continue to campaign for him to head to Alabama, just like what happened with Brent Calloway. FSU will have to stay on him, hard.
1. Mario Edwards, DE
5 of 5I hate to bang the FSU drum here for the third time in a row, but this not a good sign for the Seminoles. ESPNU's top ranked prospect, DE Mario Edwards, is pretty much looking around.
Edwards says he's committed to FSU, "but Oklahoma and LSU are standing out." He also told Scout.com that he will likely take trips to Baton Rouge and Norman—and maybe a few others.
Scout.com also lists him as an uncommitted prospect, so that is also a bad sign for FSU right now.
