Week 9 Waiver Wire: Christian Ponder and Others You Must Add

John RozumOct 31, 2011

Adding depth to fantasy football always bodes well for late in the season, especially if you're in a playoff race.

And being that we're now heading into Week 9 next week, the fantasy football regular season only has a few weeks left until the postseason. That said, here are three players to add who can help increase your shot at winning a title, because having good depth is extremely crucial.

Christian Ponder: QB, Vikings

Christian Ponder obviously is not a starter unless your No. 1 QB is injured or on a bye week. However, if you're in a league that starts two QBs, Ponder isn't that bad of a choice.

With a solid running game to rely on, it's only going to take pressure off Ponder in the passing game. Yes, his targets aren't the best, but he's going to make them better as the season progresses.

And it's clear the Vikings have rallied around him, because winning on the road in Carolina is not an easy task. In the two games he's played in thus far, Ponder has averaged 227 yards. Not bad for his first two starts, both of which he accumulated over 15 fantasy points.

Donald Brown: RB, Colts

Although Donald Brown is splitting carries with Delone Carter for the Colts, Brown is just as risky of a start as Carter in terms of who's going to score.

That said, Brown may have less rush yards, but he has a higher average there, as well as in receiving, Plus they're both tied with two TDs.

Now include the Colts weak passing game and it's for certain that Carter and Brown will continue to share carries. While that's going on, if you need a backup RB or flex position player, Brown is just as valuable as Carter. Last week it was Carter, this week it's Brown.

With both, it's a "pick your poison"-esque situation, so with Carter most likely unavailable, you might as well grab Brown to counteract everyone else in your league.

Scott Chandler: TE, Bills

Even though he's been inconsistent in terms of production this season, adding Bills TE Scott Chandler to be your backup TE isn't a bad decision.

Last week he may have only had two receptions, but both went for TDs. So it's for certain that his reliability inside the red-zone has increased for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Also, with WRs Steve Johnson and Donald Jones deriving the pass defense's attention, as well as the rushing attack drawing up defenders in the box, Chandler will earn more targets as the season continues. He has six TDs on the year, which is tied for a team lead with RB Fred Jackson.

Therefore, if you want someone who can really give you an edge, allow Scott Chandler to be the man.
