UFC 137 Results: Is Nick Diaz Misunderstood or Just Clueless?

Jeffrey McKinneyOct 31, 2011

Nick Diaz is one of the most interesting and entertaining fighters in MMA today.

But, the moment he opens his mouth, many people are either angered by what he has to say, or left scratching their heads because they don’t understand what he’s talking about.

Despite trying to play the thug role and acting like he doesn’t care about anything, Diaz is an emotional fighter.

At the UFC post fight press conference, Diaz complained about not making boxing money and continuing to live in rough areas of Stockton, Calif.

Just moments later, Diaz said his younger brother, Nate, had moved to a nicer home, but that he still had not.

UFC president Dana White stood next to Diaz looking uncomfortable and perplexed, saying Diaz should have more than enough money to move to a better place.

Another complaint Diaz had was not being able to get more sparring partners in.

His trainer, Cesar Gracie, explained the situation better in an interview saying that certain boxers were charging more to spar with Diaz because he was an MMA guy.

Diaz is one of the best MMA fighters today, but there are times when he complains about the sport so much that you almost want him to leave for boxing.

He can be a technically skilled fighter, but at times he, along with his brother, can barely put two sentences together.

It’s no secret that Diaz grew up in a rough situation. But, there have been many opportunities in his career that he has screwed himself out of.

Between fighting in hospitals, getting caught with marijuana in his system and missing press conferences, Diaz has had many chances in his career.

Yet there’s always the other side of him, where he’s smiling with fans, participating in triathlons and giving people an exciting fight.

Some believe Diaz is misunderstood, and this could be true to a certain degree.

Like Chael Sonnen and Brock Lesnar, Diaz could just be one of the best promoters in the UFC, but his immaturity gets in the way.

The UFC is giving Diaz another chance to prove he can handle it all, by giving him another shot at Georges St-Pierre.

What he decides to do with this opportunity however, is up to Diaz.
