NFL's Stock Up Stock Down Week 9: Whose Value Is Plummeting After Week 8?
Week 8 of the NFL season brought us plenty of downright, poor performances. Whether it was Tim Tebow or the entire offensive line for the Washington Redskins, we had plenty of players, teams and coaches who saw their value plummet after Week 8.
Let's take a look at the Week 9 edition of "NFL's Stock Up, Stock Down" and focus on whose value is plummeting after Week 8.
Blaine Gabbert
1 of 9In a year where every other rookie quarterback is playing extremely well (Christian Ponder, Cam Newton and Andy Dalton), it must be difficult for Blaine Gabbert.
His performance on Sunday left much to be desired from the "franchise" quarterback. The big problem is that Gabbert simply isn't ready for the NFL game. He would have been much better off sitting on the bench and learning for a year before being thrown into the gauntlet.
Unfortunately, with only Luke McCown as the other option, the Jacksonville Jaguars don't really have a choice. Hopefully this rough patch doesn't send Gabbert down a spiraling path of terrible play.
The 10th overall pick of the 2011 NFL draft is plummeting quickly, and I can't see him getting back up anytime soon.
Arizona Cardinals
2 of 9After starting the season 1-0, the Arizona Cardinals have lost their last six games.
However, their five losses previous to Sunday's loss isn't what is causing them to plummet. Their plummeting is directly related to their pitiful second-half performance against the Baltimore Ravens.
I'm sorry, but when you are beating a team 24-6 and winning every battle on the field in the first half, there is no way you should lose that game. It was a an awful performance in the second half and one that could ruin Arizona's season.
With players like Larry Fitzgerald, Beanie Wells and Patrick Peterson, this team shouldn't be losing that way.
Kevin Kolb
3 of 9The majority of the blame for the Arizona Cardinals plummeting nature needs to be placed squarely on the shoulders of Kevin Kolb.
Look, there isn't a more important position than quarterback in the NFL. All the elite teams in the league have an elite quarterback. On the flip side, all the horrible teams have a horrible quarterback. Which side do you think Kolb falls on?
With a huge lead heading into the second half, as a quarterback, you can't flat-line and allow your opponent back into the game. Even if your opponent does make a comeback, you need to do what you did in the first half and put them out of their misery.
Kolb doesn't look capable of doing that which means the Cardinals will continue to plummet week after week.
Tony Sparano
4 of 9There is no doubt in my mind that the Miami Dolphins went out there and gave all that they had on Sunday. Unfortunately, all that they had was an inability to close out a football game to remain winless on the year.
Tony Sparano has been on the hot seat since the first game of the season, and right now it must feel like he is sitting on an exploding volcano. His team is a complete mess. I honestly can't see them winning a game for the rest of the season.
If Sparano isn't fired soon, I will be sending my resume to Miami because it clearly must not matter what your coaching ability is to get a job. Maybe I could be offensive coordinator.
Washington Redskins
5 of 9The Washington Redskins have gone from playoff contenders to cellar dwellers faster than a lightning bolt rises from the ground.
Their most recent loss to the Buffalo Bills was the worst football we have seen all year from them. That type of performance is what we expected from this team coming into the season, and they finally proved us right to doubt them.
There wasn't one positive thing for Washington to take away from that game. No improvement. No success offensively or defensively. It was just a bad, bad performance from a team that is plummeting into awfulness.
Tim Tebow
6 of 9Well, I guess we've seen what we are going to get from Tim Tebow.
I won't go into too much depth because you can literally look anywhere to find out how poorly Tebow played and how quickly he is plummeting.
The one thing I will say is that Tebow belongs nowhere near a football field right now. In my book, that is quite the plummet.
Jason Garrett
7 of 9There are a few things that the coach of the Dallas Cowboys should never do. First, they should never talk bad about Jerry Jones. Secondly, they should never lose to a division rival by the score of 34-7.
Unfortunately for Garrett, that is exactly what he did Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. While Tony Romo could have been a popular choice for plummeting, I'm really starting to believe that Garrett is the problem in Dallas.
Romo might not be the best quarterback in the league, but we have seen him succeed with less weapons that he has now, and with a defensive-minded coach. However, under Garrett, Romo just can't get anything going.
If the Cowboys keep losing, and Garrett keeps plummeting, there will be a head coaching vacancy in Dallas shortly.
Chris Johnson
8 of 9How bad is Chris Johnson right now? I'm sorry, but if you get the same amount of carries as Javon Ringer and you barely get half as many yards as him, you are terrible.
Johnson is a frequent member of the "Stock Down Club," as he has yet to have a truly dominant performance this year. In fact, he has yet to have even a great performance. The majority of his games this year have just been awful.
Sunday was no exception where Johnson only mustered 34 yards against the Indianapolis Colts. And yes, that is the same Colts team that got burned for 236 yards against the New Orleans Saints in the week before.
Don't be surprised if Johnson finds himself on the bench more and more as the season progresses. Right now, he wins the Plummet of the Year Award.
Olindo Mare
9 of 9Ladies and gentlemen, for the first time in the history of "NFL's Stock Up, Stock Down," a kicker is making an appearance as one who is plummeting.
Olindo Mare has been a great kicker, but missing a 31-yard chip shot to send a game into overtime is simply unacceptable. What makes it even worse is the fact that the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers were playing a spectacular game.
The missed field goal isn't benching worthy, but it is definitely deserving of being a player whose stock is plummeting.
