Tim Tebow's Awful Performance Ignites a Public Bashing

After just one week, the Tim Tebow lovefest came to a screeching halt with an embarrassing performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

It should have been easy to see coming after his terrible play in the first 55 minutes of the Miami game, but everyone created a feel-good story based around the comeback.

As is always the case in this cynical world, whenever an athlete is built up so much and then struggles, we have to tear him down. There is no shortage of forums to rip on someone, thanks to the advent of social media websites.

Tebow, as you would expect, got torn to shreds during and after the game yesterday. Here are some of the best jokes, insults, limericks and haikus from around the web about the Denver Broncos quarterback. 

Professional golfer Steve Elkington re-tweeted comedian Denis Leary's exclusive report on just how bad things were for Tebow in this game. 

Scott Tobias of the A.V. Club says that the praise Tebow gets as an NFL player for being a Christian does not hold water. 

One of the best people to follow on Twitter (aside from myself) is Faux John Madden. He provides insight and analysis better than the real John Madden—which is not a hard thing to do—and he had a mean-spirited look at Tebow's performance. 

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, who has had some heated discussions in the past with the venerable Skip Bayless on First Take, REALLY wants to have a talk with his colleague this week. 

CBS analyst Boomer Esiason said something that we were all thinking, and it is still baffling to me as to why it did not happen. 

Perhaps the coaching staff got fooled by the comeback last week and just assumed that it was going to happen again. 

Armando Lopez, who is just an NFL fan, also had some insights into why Tebow was not performing well against the Lions and, frankly, it is something that we all should have been saying last week. 

Detroit's Stephen Tulloch got involved in the "Tebowing" craze after he sacked the Broncos quarterback. 

Tebow really needs to work on getting rid of the ball, because he holds it way too long. He will not last in the NFL getting hit 10 times every game. 

That is all for the Tebow bashing. There are plenty of insults and jokes out there about him right now, but we should ease up on him.

If you are going to make fun of him, keep it on the field and don't criticize his personality.
