Penn State: Why Not Us??
Let me begin by saying that the whole BCS disgusts me. It makes me sick to my stomach just hearing those three letters. Bowl Championship Series huh? I like to refer to it as Bull Crap Series. Its nonsense and it should be dismissed just like Andy Reid from the Eagle's coaching staff.
Now I'm not specifically saying Penn State should be in the Nation Title, but I am saying we have a valid case.
Currently my Nittany Lions are ranked 8th in the BCS Standings. Again, I hate even mentioning those three letters. So let me start with the teams ranked higher than us beginning with...
Texas Tech
So you beat Texas, congratulations. There's not doubting the explosive offense in Harrell and Crabtree, arguably two of the best players in the nation. But, not only did you lose to Oklahoma on the most watched game in college football history but you lost by 44 points. That means you lost by over 6 touchdowns! You got spanked in the biggest game of the year by 6+ touchdowns? No team that loses by 44 points should even be in the top 10.
Utah
I compare this team to last year's Hawaii. A joke. An absolute joke. All I heard last year was, "Why Not Hawaii". Well to start, how about you got pounded face first to the ground by Georgia 41-10!! Utah is no different. They will get torn apart by 30+ points against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. A team in such a conference should have no consideration for a BCS bid.
USC
Easy Killers. Finish reading my article before you pull the trigger on me. So often the BCS decides who will be ranked higher according to "who beat who". Well, the last time I checked the unstoppable Trojans got embarassed on live TV to Oregon State. Yes, Oregon State. The game wasn't as close as the score indicated, USC trailed 21-0 at one point. That is indeed the same team Penn State kicked to the curb by 31 points. Need I say more?
Alabama
I like this team, but I believe Penn State is better. I look at their win column-Impressive, then I look at their win margin—not impressive. Bama snuck one out against the powerhouse Tulane- I was being sarcastic for those of you who didn't catch my drift. A three-point win over the SEC's worst team in Kentucky, A 4 point nailbiter to Mississippi. Then you lose to Florida in the biggest game of your life. A win doesnt matter to the BCS, a dominating win does and I don't see it anywhere here.
Texas
This team is good. Real good. I think they got snubbed a nation title to be honest. They not only win, but they win big. They beat Oklahoma and they beat Oklahoma State. But...we forget one thing. You lost to Texas Tech. That is the same team that was ranked No. 2 in the nation and lost by 44 points! I can't get over that. How do you lose to a team that loses by 6+ touchdowns? Now your stuck playing Ohio State—Oh that's right, Penn State beat them too.
Oklahoma
Explosive, firing on all cylinders offensively. Destroyed the overrated Texas Tech by 44 points. But, I'm not completely sold on Oklahoma's Defense. They gave up 4+ touchdowns seven different times this year. And, When it comes down to it. You lost to Texas, who lost to Texas Tech. Remember the team you beat? Maybe you shouldn't have beaten Tech so bad after all??
Florida
This team reminds me exactly of Penn State. A hard-nose tough football team. Both one loss teams. Both teams lost by a lone one point. Both have dominated the majority of their opponents. So how can someone say Florida deserves a shot more than Penn State? You can't, but the BCS did. They somehow found a way to hose my team once again. The Nation Title should be- Penn State (11-1) vs. Florida (12-1). No questions asked.
Maybe I'm a bit bias towards my Nittany Lions. Maybe not. But either way I believe we deserve a shot at what the BCS refers to as "The National Championship". Similar to Florida, we lost to a team by one point who we would beat nine times out of 10. We have one of the best defenses in the entire country.
We beat 5 ranked teams, destroying most of them. So, I ask again..Why Not Us? Why not Penn State for the 2009 Nation Title?
