Cowboys vs. Eagles: Dallas Will Take Advantage of Philly's Awful Run Defense

Austin GreenOct 30, 2011

The Dallas Cowboys will improve to 4-3 tonight by taking advantage of Philadelphia's suspect run defense.

Rookie running back DeMarco Murray was spectacular in his first start last week, rushing for 253 yards, including a 91-yard TD run. I don't expect him to rack up that many yards this week, but he should still have an excellent day against the weak Philly D.

Philadelphia is currently 23rd in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game, giving up 123.8 per contest. They are also 26th in opponents' yards per carry (4.8) and have given up six rushing touchdowns this year, tied for 10th most in the league.

Simply put, their run defense is terrible. The Cowboys should put the ball in Murray's hands all game long and let him go to work.

Tony Romo has struggled against the Eagles in the past, throwing 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in seven career starts against his NFC East rival. The Cowboys would be wise to limit Romo's passing attempts by feeding the ball to Murray with regularity.

Last week against St. Louis, Murray had more carries (25) than Romo had passing attempts (24). Dallas should value a similar formula tonight in order to limit turnover opportunities.

Romo is an exceptional talent, but he can be very mistake-prone. With standout cornerbacks Asante Samuel and Nnamdi Asomugha lined up on the other side of the ball, Dallas should be very wary of throwing the ball.

Tonight, the Cowboys game plan will feature more Murray than Romo, and that is why they will win.

Prediction: Dallas 27, Eagles 21
