Pacquiao vs. Marquez: Pac-Man's Intensity Will Have Marquez Scared for His Life

Donald WoodOct 31, 2011

There isn’t a sparring partner left in the Las Vegas area that isn’t afraid to get in the ring with Manny Pacquiao, and he has been so intense in his training that people are concerned.

Juan Manuel Marquez will be trying to beat Pacquiao for his WBO welterweight title on November 12th, but he woke a sleeping giant with his prefight talk about Manny stealing the first two fights.

Pac-Man is a proud man and feels that he earned the first two decisions. The fact that Marquez has questioned him publicly, infuriates the veteran fighter.

Pacquiao's advisor Michael Koncz told the Manila Bulletin about Manny’s intensity, saying, "[Pacquiao] could have killed his sparring partners. He will put an exclamation mark [on the win]. Manny has said that this fight will put an end to all the doubts, and I do believe he will.

"He's been early for morning roadwork and early for his afternoon workouts. [I've] never seen him this serious, although I'm not saying he wasn't [serious] during his previous training camps. I just saw changes in the way he trained for this fight."

If I was Marquez or someone in the Marquez camp, I would be terrified at the news that the already ridiculously tough Pacquiao was training harder and with an attitude; I would be very concerned.

There is nothing scarier than a man that will smile during his media appearances and be helpful and friendly outside the ring, because everyone knows as soon as he gets in the ring, his opponents are in trouble.

It's uncharacteristic of Pac-Man to be this intense during training, and the fact that he is shows that he is taking Marquez very seriously and may be thinking long term about a possible fight against Floyd Mayweather.
