Fantasy Football Week 8: Jackie Battle and More Primetime Game Sleepers

Tim DanielsOct 30, 2011

Fantasy football owners are often sent scouring the waiver wire for last-minute replacements in the primetime games each week due to late scratches or depth chart changes. If you're in that position in Week 8, here are three sleepers to consider that can save your week.

Jason Avant – Philadelphia Eagles

Avant caught nine passes for 139 yards against the Buffalo Bills prior to Philadelphia's bye week and has found a nice niche in the Eagles offense. He should be in line for a handful of targets in what's destined to be a shootout against the Cowboys.

Michael Vick tends to lock into one receiver, so if Avant can find an early rhythm, his usual serviceable game could turn into a game-changing performance. He's a solid bye week replacement in just about every week moving forward.

Week 8 Projection: Seven fantasy points

Laurent Robinson – Dallas Cowboys

Robinson is in a similar situation to Avant. He's the third WR option in an explosive offense. He had a big week when Miles Austin was sidelined earlier in the year and some continue to see snaps in the slot on Sunday night.

What makes third receivers so frustrating is the lack on consistency. However, when you're stuck looking for a last-second option, you can't be picky. Robinson should catch enough passes to make an impact, so fantasy owners don't get stuck accepting a zero.

Week 8 Projection: Six fantasy points

Jackie Battle – Kansas City Chiefs

Battle has assumed lead back duties for the Chiefs with Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster proving ineffective. He's received more than 15 carries in back-to-back games and yet is only owned in 56 percent of leagues.

If he's available in your league, add him immediately. There are so few dependable running backs in the NFL that anybody receiving starter's carries should be on somebody's bench.

Battle should have a strong game against a Chargers defense that has allowed 58 fantasy points to running back over the last three games.

Week 8 Projection: Nine fantasy points
