DeMarco Murray Fantasy: Dallas Cowboys RB Will Ravage Philadelphia Eagles

David DanielsOct 30, 2011

DeMarco Murray’s numbers will without a doubt drop off from last week, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t clip the Philadelphia Eagles’ wings on Sunday Night Football.

Felix Jones is out with an injury.  NFL.com also confirmed this week that Tashard Choice has been released.  After those pair of losses, the Dallas Cowboys are now left with Murray and undrafted rookie Phillip Tanner, who has six career carries.  Luckily for the Cowboys, Murray will be handed another great matchup in his second game as a feature back.

Last week against the St. Louis Rams’ 32nd ranked run defense, Murray exploded rushing for a franchise-record 253 yards on the ground.  He will go up against an Eagles defense that ranks 23rd in that department and surrenders 123.8 yards a game and 4.8 yards a pop.  If he doesn’t cross the century mark, it would be an absolute shocker.

Despite adding top-notch talents like Jason Babin and Cullen Jenkins to its front seven this offseason, Philadelphia’s defense has struggled all year long.

The Eagles brought in Jim Washburn to coach the defensive line this season, which has resulted in plenty of sacks, but his wide-nine technique has hurt the unit’s run-stopping ability.  During his years with the Tennessee Titans, Washburn had talented linebackers able to rack up the tackles in players like Keith Bulluck, Stephen Tulloch and David Thornton, but with the Eagles, Washburn has no such thing backing up his D-line.

Jamar Chaney, Moises Fokou, Brian Rolle and Casey Matthews make up one of the least talented linebacking corps in the entire NFL, and it has been exposed all season long.  Not one of them ranks even in the top 60 in tackles this season.

Murray is licking his chops.

The statistics say the former Oklahoma Sooner is in for a big day.  If you aren’t buying into the stats right now as an Eagles fan, keep shaking your head because the stats are indeed lying.  In fact, the stats are lying because last week, the Washington Redskins only ran the football 14 times for 42 yards on Philadelphia; if it weren’t for that outlier, the Eagles would be ranked even worse at stopping the run.

If you were lucky enough to add Murray in your fantasy football league, he’s a must-start this week in Philly.
