Week 8 Fantasy Football Rankings: Michael Vick and Late-Game QBs That Will Shine

Justin WeltonOct 30, 2011

There are several top-notch NFL quarterbacks that play in Week 8 this week. Tony Romo, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger and Michael Vick will all need to have dynamic performances for their team to win. Here is why each one will shine.

Tony Romo

Tony Romo always seems to turn up his game against hated divisional rival Philadelphia Eagles. In 2009, Romo threw for 618 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in two games against the Eagles.

If Romo doesn’t turn the ball over, the Cowboys would be in prime position to steal a game in Philadelphia.

It’s apparent that Romo needs a solid rushing attack to better him as a quarterback. He didn’t get it last year or this year even, but last week, he got it in a big way from DeMarco Murray who ran for 253 yards against the St. Louis Rams.

Once Romo gets a rushing game, it allows him to relax and make smart decisions. He threw two touchdowns compared to zero interceptions last week and Murray deserves the brunt of that credit. Also, the Rams aren’t a very good team. That always helps too.

If the run game can get going once again, Romo will have another productive day, this time in prime time.

Tom Brady

Tom Brady has always been successful against the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. One reason is because the Steelers don’t use press-coverage, they are about 10-15 yards off the receivers. If they can’t jam Wes Welker and company at the line, Brady will pick them apart.

Pittsburgh needs to pressure Brady in order to have success. If they can make him uncomfortable in the pocket, Pittsburgh may have a solid day against Brady, finally.

Chances are unlikely, especially now with linebacker James Farrior joining James Harrison as inactive. Farrior is the captain of the defense.

Ben Roethlisberger

With Tom Brady coming to the Steel City, Ben Roethlisberger will be in a quarterback duel with the best in the NFL.

Roethlisberger will need to prove to the naysayers that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and he will get his chance against one of the worst pass defenses in the league.

We will see what Big Ben has when he goes toe-to-toe with Brady.

Michael Vick

Michael Vick has been prone to the turnover in 2011. He has nine touchdowns through the air compared to eight interceptions. He has also lost a fumble.

If he can rectify those errors, Philadelphia will get back on track sooner rather than later.

Last season, Vick scored three touchdowns against the Cowboys in his only meeting with Dallas.

Dallas’ rush defense is the best in the game, but the pass defense is around the middle-of-the-pack at No. 14.

If your league has 10 yards rushing is equal to one point, Vick will always be a great choice to use in fantasy football because of that option.
