BCS Rankings: 5 Teams Rising Fast in Week 10 Projections

Alex KayOct 30, 2011

The Week 10 BCS rankings are coming out later today and we can already start predicting who’s rising and falling as Week 9 of the college football season has concluded.

Most of the top teams performed well and handled their business, but there was also a fair amount of shocking upsets that will send some teams tumbling down or even out of the Top 25 BCS rankings.

Let’s take a look at five teams that are going to capitalize on those upsets, and move up or make their first appearance in the rankings during the Week 10 edition.

Nebraska

1 of 5

The Cornhuskers just pulled off a nice win against No. 11 Michigan State, who upset the Wisconsin Badgers last week. Wisconsin beat beat Nebraska earlier this season.

In a roundabout way, that is a huge win for Nebraska.

They handily took care of business and really stymied the Spartan offense—limiting them to just 187 yards total and three points.

Nebraska should definitely jump up today and Michigan State will fall.

Oklahoma

2 of 5

The Sooners BCS hopes and dreams aren’t dead just yet.

They got a very solid win over an overrated Kansas State team that makes them look great to both the human and computer polls.

Landry Jones threw for 505 yards and five touchdowns in Oklahoma’s 58-17 smashing of the No. 7 team in the nation.

The team played with passion, and knows that they need to win every game from here on out convincingly.

I think they will do exactly that until they run into Oklahoma State on Dec. 3.

Georgia Tech

3 of 5

The Yellow Jackets finally knocked off Clemson, who was ranked fifth in the nation and beat three ranked teams in a row earlier this season.

Georgia Tech is now 7-2 behind the No. 2 ranked rushing offense that utilizes triple-option QB Tevin Washington to great effect.

The USA Today poll that came out earlier today has Georgia Tech ranked No. 23 and they should be appearing in the BCS rankings as well.

West Virginia

4 of 5

West Virginia was barely hanging around the Top 25 after losing 49-23 to Syracuse two weeks ago.

They helped their case to belong in the rankings with a solid, come-from-behind victory over Rutgers in a snowy game.

The Mountaineers held Rutgers to zero points in the fourth quarter, while putting up 13 themselves, which allowed them to win 41-31.

Look for WVU to move up in the rankings a bit this week.

Houston

5 of 5

Case Keenum got out the megaphone and shouted at the top of his lungs that he must be considered a legitimate Heisman candidate.

He also has his Houston Cougar team ready to go bowling—perhaps even making a prestigious one, at that.

Keenum threw for nine touchdowns and 534 yards against the Rice Owls on Thursday in a 73-34 lopsided beatdown.

Keenum’s stock is now up and his team's BCS ranking should be as well.
