UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre may seem unstoppable, but he is merely a man. He is beatable, and Nick Diaz may be the man to finally take his belt.
What skills does Diaz posses that can threaten the champ? What tools in his arsenal must he use in order to dethrone St. Pierre?
Read and find out!
He Is in St. Pierre's Head
1 of 4Nick Diaz's trash talking and disrespectful, sometimes bizarre antics have gotten the best of the usually cool and calm St. Pierre.
The Canadian has been aggravated so much that he called Diaz "the most disrespectful human being [he's] ever met." He also promised to "put the worst beating you've ever seen on him in the UFC."
Harsh words from a man who is usually soft spoken.
Diaz has definitely got inside St. Pierre's head, which may well impact St-Pierre's strategy in their eventual fight.
The Stockton Slap
2 of 4Nick Diaz's unorthodox striking style (often called "The Stockton Slap" after Diaz's hometown) could present problems for St. Pierre.
Diaz's teammate, Jake Shields, managed to impair St. Pierre's vision with his rudimentary striking. Just imagine what Diaz's fluid combinations and high-volume punches could do.
But won't St. Pierre just take him down? That leads to the next reason why Diaz could win.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
3 of 4St. Pierre was afraid to go to the ground with Jake Shields. Knowing this, it's entirely possible he'll be afraid to go to the ground with Diaz as well.
If St. Pierre stands up, he'll risk getting pummeled by Diaz's boxing. If he takes Diaz down, he'll risk getting submitted.
The champ faces quite a conundrum in Nick Diaz.
Just Because He Can Doesn't Mean He Will
4 of 4These are reasons Diaz could potentially beat St.Pierre, not reasons that he will.
Like the old MMA cliché goes, "anything can happen in a fight." Just so, anything can happen between Diaz and St.Pierre.
Diaz could knock him out or submit him, but St. Pierre could grind out a decision over Diaz just as easily.
