Ron Gronkowski: Will Bibi Jones Saga Turn Fantasy Stud into Dud?

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski started the season as one of the best fantasy players in the NFL. But after three down games and the last eight days being all about his relationship with porn star Bibi Jones, it appears that something has changed in him. 

During the Patriots' bye last week, Gronkowski posted photos on his Twitter page with Jones wearing his jersey. The whole thing took on a life of its own thanks to the Internet, and now there are questions about where the football star's mind is at right now. 

Things got so bad for Gronkowski this week that he actually apologized to Robert Kraft and the Patriots organization. 

As LZ Granderson of ESPN.com wrote, the idea that Gronkowski is the first athlete to associate with a porn star is ridiculous.

From all of the John Hughes-type movies where the captain of the football team dates the captain of the cheerleading squad, to the popularity of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders calendar, we all know sex and high profile sports are not two concepts that are foreign to each other.

So for all the talk that Gronkowski might fall off a cliff because he is spending his free time in places he shouldn't be with people he shouldn't be, I would be more concerned about the fact that he has just 12 catches for 120 yards in his last three games played. 

Since the Jones saga started last week, we can only attribute Gronkowski's declining performance on the return Aaron Hernandez and Tom Brady's knack for getting everyone involved in the offense.

The Jones saga is fun to talk about because most men, at some point in their lives, dream of hanging out with a porn star. It sounds disgusting, but men are primitive beings that have a one-track mind.

Actually, it's two tracks, but football is only played on weekends, so something else has to distract us until Saturday comes. 

Gronkowski needs to have a good game against the Steelers for himself and all the doubters who think that he is not focused on what he needs to be focused on. 

It is hard to see the Jones saga being the thing that is dragging him down, because athletes are very good at compartmentalizing distractions when they step on the field. But his performance in the last three games has given cause for concern. 

With or without Jones in his life, Gronkowski would be on the decline for fantasy owners because of the way that the Patriots run their offense and the return of Hernandez.
