Liverpool FC: 9 Most Famous Red Goals This Side of 2004

Jake RoddOct 30, 2011

Liverpool are one of the most famous clubs in the world, and each club has a stereotype. Most of you know Liverpool's; how many times have you heard 'Liverpool are famous for scoring late, late goals'? A lot. In fact, you probably hear it at least once every two games.

This article will give you what are, in my opinion, the 10 most important Liverpool goals since 2004. The reason I have chosen 2004 as a year to start is simple: the article is my opinion and therefore I have to have seen the goals. Makes sense.

Bear in mind there are a lot of important goals to choose from, so I've picked my favourites.

Fernando Torres' 1st Goal... Ironically Against Chelsea

1 of 10

Sorry for the quality.

Fernando Torres, though hated by some Liverpool fans now, was the dog's watsits while he was here. Liverpool were constantly criticised for being a two-man team; the "Gerrard and Torres Show." However, it worked.

Liverpool came within four points of a league title with Torres leading the line by himself, it has to be said. This goal was important because strikers need to score early to boost their confidence. Look at Chelsea Torres for you; he looked depleted of confidence and almost scared of the ball.

God knows where Liverpool would have finished if Torres hadn't scored that goal to set him running.

Ryan Babel's Winning Goal Against Manchester United

2 of 10

Before this goal was scored, Liverpool had a plagued record against bitter rivals Manchester United. This goal secured an Anfield win that preceded a much better run against United. Makes fans happier, makes the players happier and also annoys United fans. All good.

Luis Suarez Debut Goal

3 of 10

For the same reason as the Fernando Torres debut goal inclusion, this one comes in too. Suarez has been Liverpool's best player for the majority of his time in England, and the debut goal, which is in there somewhere, kicked him off.

When Suarez kicked off, so did Liverpool.

Luis Garcia's 'Ghost Goal'

4 of 10

So satisfying when luck goes your way against bitter rivals. Especially when that piece of luck happens to be the only goal scored in a Champions League semifinal, the semifinal of an eventual successful European campaign... Am I right?

Steven Gerrard Part 1: Olympiakos

5 of 10

Where to start? Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has scored a plethora of important goals for Liverpool, but this one is arguably his best ever. The goal, as you can see, is a half volley. I can tell you for a fact that the technique involved is extremely hard to get right; I've tried, failed and as a result am now unable to have children.

But anyway. Listen to the commentary. Liverpool needed to score one more goal to go through into the Champions League. Time was ticking by, and then along comes Gerrard and does something like that. Magical.

Steven Gerrard Part 2: Istanbul

6 of 10

Liverpool and AC Milan went head-to-head in the Champions League Final in 2005, in what is now known has one of the best, if not the best, finals of all time. After being 3-0 down at halftime, Gerrard sparked a revival with this effort.

Smicer Adds on to What Steven Gerrard Started

There we go. Gerrard sparked it, Smicer lit it.

The Comeback Is Complete

8 of 10

There we go, all of the goals in action. The Xabi Alonso goal puts Liverpool back on terms with Milan after he missed a penalty. The three goals were scored in five minutes and put Liverpool on track to win their fifth Champions League trophy.

Steven Gerrard Part 3: FA Cup Final 2006

9 of 10

Priceless. Liverpool were losing the FA Cup Final with three minutes to go. Gerrard, who scored earlier in the game, scored from 25 yards to make it 3-3. Liverpool went on to win the game in penalties, just like Istanbul.

Thanks for Reading.

There we have it. Late goals, final goals, Gerrard goals. Anything that should be there, comment and I'll add it in, if it's more important than any of the nine already included. Thanks for reading.
