Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Score: Tigers Still Legit BCS Threat Despite Loss

Austin GreenOct 29, 2011

Clemson dropped to 8-1 with their 31-17 loss against Georgia Tech, but the Tigers are still a legitimate threat to make and win a BCS game.

Clemson has beaten three ranked teams (Auburn, Florida State, Virginia Tech) and boast one of the nation's best offenses.

Coming into Saturday, they were ranked 15th in the nation with 303.6 passing yards per game, and 12th in the nation with 40.6 points per game.

Sophomore quarterback Tajh Boyd is one of the best signal-callers in college football. He has 2,674 yards and 25 touchdowns, against just five interceptions. He struggled a bit versus the Yellow Jackets, throwing two interceptions, but that game was an aberration for him.

Clemson's main issues on Saturday were their four turnovers and their horrible third-down conversion rate. The Tigers got first downs on just five of 13 third-down opportunities.

Clemson outgained the Yellow Jackets by nearly 250 yards through the air, but their mistakes were too much to overcome.

However, I don't think Clemson was exposed as pretenders. The 7-2 Yellow Jackets are a quality team and this doesn't cripple Clemson's BCS chances by any means.

The Tigers should dominate the Wake Forest Demon Deacons after their bye week, building their confidence back up. Then they have a big matchup with No. 13 South Carolina.

If Clemson can win their remaining three regular season games, they will be in prime BCS position.

They don't have a shot at the national title now, but again, they can definitely play in and win a BCS game.

Personally, I have a ton of faith in Tajh Boyd and Clemson. I think they'll get the job done.
