BCS Standings Week 10: Cincinnati Bearcats and Teams That Will Enter Rankings

Mike ChiariOct 30, 2011

As with any ranking system, the BCS standings often leave out some deserving teams. That can't really be avoided, but what those "snubbed" teams can do is continue winning in order to boost their credentials and force their way into the rankings.

A decent amount of teams in the standings lost this week or were idle, so there is certainly an opportunity for some new blood to get their due. Here are three unranked teams that will show up in the BCS standings on Sunday.

TCU Horned Frogs

A 6-2 team in the Mountain West Conference may not impress too many, but the TCU Horned Frogs are perfectly capable of competing with some of the nation's better teams. They could very easily be undefeated, but suffered a two-point loss to a good Baylor team to begin the season, and were clipped in overtime by SMU.

TCU scored what was perhaps its most impressive win of the season this week by beating the previously red-hot BYU Cougars 38-28. The Frogs have one of the country's best offenses, and the defense has been pretty solid as well. TCU hasn't had to play a back-breaking schedule, and I think that is the reason why they aren't getting more respect.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

After an impressive upset of the No. 5 Clemson Tigers, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets most definitely deserve to be included in the BCS rankings. The Jackets probably deserve to be ranked anyway, but back-to-back losses to Virginia and Miami (FL) killed their early-season momentum.

Few offenses in the nation are more explosive than Georgia Tech's, as a host of runners give the Jackets a nearly unstoppable ground game. The defense has certainly struggled a bit, but if the offense continues to perform flawlessly like it did against Clemson, then that shouldn't be a major issue, just as it wasn't earlier in the year.

Cincinnati Bearcats

The Cincinnati Bearcats were off this week, but they have proven over the course of the season to be the Big East's best team. West Virginia is currently the only Big East team ranked at No. 25, but the Mountaineers were smoked by Syracuse two weeks ago and barely edged out Rutgers this week.

If any Big East team is going to be in the BCS standings, then it needs to be Cincinnati. The Bearcats have suffered just one loss this season, that being to Tennessee, and they are undefeated in conference play. Cincinnati is extremely well-rounded on offense thanks to quarterback Zach Collaros and running back Isaiah Pead, and seem to be the only Big East team capable of competing against power-conference foes.
