UFC 137 Results: Ramsey Nijem Shows He Is an Elite Fighter vs. Danny Downes
Ramsey Nijem showed he is ready to be considered one of the best fighters in his class. He made easy work of his UFC 137 opponent Danny Downes and cruised to decisive victory by decision.
Ramsey's Dominance
This fight went the distance, but it was never in doubt. Ramsey dominated from beginning to end.
He opened up by putting on an absolute clinic. He was clearly the better striker and grappler.
Downes was on the defense for the entire bout with the lone exception a brief moment, at the beginning of round two, where he managed to get Nijem in a crucifix.
This fight was about as lopsided as you'll see, and that was certainly reflected in the scorecards: 30-25, 30-26, 30-27.
Opponent
If Ramsey is going to get a shot at the title, he will have to do so against better opponents then Downes. Downes is a mid-level fighter that is not particularly strong in any area.
His claim to fame is victory over China's Zhang at WEC 53.
What Win Tells Us About Ramsey
More than anything we learned just how athletic and physically imposing Ramsey can be. From the moment of the start of this fight it was clear that Downes just did not have the speed or strength to keep up with Ramsey.
This was Ramsey's debut fight at 155 pounds, and it appears he has found a new home there.
