Georgia Football: 5 Things We Learned About the Bulldogs Against Florida

Brian JonesOct 29, 2011

It's been three years since the Georgia Bulldogs defeated Florida, so there was some doubt that the Bulldogs would take down a depleted Gator team this year.

But the defense played well and the offense did just enough to give the Bulldogs the win over their rivals and keep their hopes for a SEC East title alive.

However, the special teams struggled again and that is something they have to address moving forward.

Here's five things we learned about the Bulldogs in victory.

Jarvis Jones Is One of the Best Defensive Players in the SEC

1 of 5

Jones has played well all season long, but had his coming out party against Florida with four sacks.

He has gotten better each game and he has been the reason the defense had been playing well all season long. There is not doubt he will be a first-team All-SEC selection when the season is over.

Richard Samuel Is a Valuable Player

2 of 5

If there is anybody who deserves the spotlight, its Samuel. His hard running was the difference in the game and he had the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter.

He has been moved around from running back, to linebacker, back to running back and has not complained. Not once.

He's not the best running back on the team, but he may be the most valuable.

Aaron Murray Played Well, but ...

3 of 5

Murray did enough to win the game, and had some huge throws. But there was a time where he missed on nine consecutive passes, which is never good.

This has been a minor problem for Murray all season long, but he has been able to overcome it one way or another.

It will be interesting to see it he improves on his accuracy these last four games.

Malcom Mitchell Is Not the Only WR That Can Make Plays

4 of 5

With Malcolm Mitchell out, the Bulldogs did not throw the ball down field as much as they would have liked. But Michael Bennett, Tavarres King and Chris Conley had big catches, which were game-changers.

King and Bennett had touchdown catches, which both plays were made on fourth down and Conley had a big catch in the fourth quarter on a third down play to keep the chains moving for the Bulldogs.

Once Mitchell returns, this unit will be very dangerous down the stretch.

There Is Really Something Wrong with Bliar Walsh

5 of 5

The Bulldogs would have won by 10 if Walsh would have made the two field goals he missed. This has been nothing new for Walsh who has missed 10 field goals so far this season.

This is very unusual for him because before this season, Walsh had only missed five field goals the last two seasons.

Walsh has to get the missed field goals corrected because the Bulldogs are going to need the Walsh of old if they want to win the SEC.
