LSU vs Alabama: Why SEC Showdown Should Be BCS Title Game in January

Nicholas GossOct 29, 2011

LSU and Alabama are No. 1 and No. 2 in the country respectively in the AP poll and the BCS rankings, and even though one of them has to lose when the two teams meet on November 5, this game should be replayed as the BCS title game in January.

The Tigers and the Crimson Tide are the two best teams in America, and it's not even close to be honest.

Both teams are 8-0 and have thus far been perfect in SEC play, but they have also challenged themselves outside the toughest conference in college football.

LSU has played and beaten West Virginia and Oregon, while Alabama has beaten Penn State. Neither team has really been tested that well either, except maybe LSU in the season opener against Oregon.

What makes the Tigers and Crimson Tide so tough to beat are their defenses, and often times it looks like they have 12 guys on the field with the speed and athleticism they play with.

Alabama is the top team in the country in points against, allowing just 6.9 points per game. Only three teams have scored 10 or more points on the Crimson Tide this season, and they're some pretty good teams in Arkansas, Florida and Penn State.

LSU is third in the country, allowing 11.5 points per game, and have been forcing a good amount of turnovers as well.

With these top two teams so evenly matched and very talented, it's clear they should meet again in the BCS title game in January.

It's highly unlikely that one team will blow the other out, so LSU and Alabama deserve to fight for the national championship.

Oklahoma State, Stanford and Boise State are quality teams, but they would not stand a chance against either SEC powerhouse.

Even though it's unlikely, there is absolutely no reason why Alabama and LSU shouldn't meet for the BCS championship in a few months.
