2011 Breeders Cup: Uncle Mo and Top Contenders to Win It All
The 2011 Breeders’ Cup will be held at Churchill Downs for the second year in a row and the 1.25 mile dirt track will be the showcase for some of the best racing horses in the world.
While there are underdogs with a real chance to win, the favorites for this race are just that for a reason. Horses like Stay Thirsty and To Honor and Serve will be in the mix at the end of the race, but they will be facing the obstacle of passing the top horses.
The following horses are the top contenders for this year’s Breeders’ Cup, and while you won’t make much money betting on these horses, they are the safest bet.
1. Uncle Mo
There may not be a more dominant horse right now than Uncle Mo, and with the horse placing in all eight of his last eight races including five wins, it's obvious why he is the favorite in this race.
With Uncle Mo’s odds at 4/1, a bet on this horse may not yield a huge sum, but it would be the smartest play. The only worry I have is that Uncle Mo hasn’t raced a mile and a quarter track before. Will he be able to maintain through the finish?
2. So You Think
This horse is a five-year-old that has all the experience in the world to make him the favorite, and I think that So You Think should be the top horse in this race.
So You Think has won 11 of the 17 races he has entered, and the best evidence that shows that this horse is ready for a prime-time win is that seven of his 11 wins have come on tracks the same length as Churchill Downs.
3. Havre de Grace
Havre de Grace is a 5.5/1 bet for the 2011 Breeders’ Cup, and the Filly is one of the favorites to steal the show at Churchill Downs.
After placing in all 14 of her races so far, owner Rick Porter is trying to show just how talented his lady horse can be. Despite winning eight of the 14 races, Havre de Grace has only raced in two 1.25 mile races and finished in second in both, making her a safe bet to place.
