Fantasy Football Rankings Week 8: Houston and Defenses That Will Crush Opponents

Michael MillOct 29, 2011

In fantasy football, it's not necessarily the right move to play the top defenses in the league every week.

Actually, most find success playing the particular matchups that favor certain defenses under different circumstances.

This weekend, however, there are many top-tier defenses that are in position to have favorable matchups.

Here are three defenses that will absolutely crush opponents this weekend.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have the most favorable matchup for any defense this weekend.

This weekend the Texans face off against a Jacksonville Jaguars offense that has been unable to establish any offense this season. They are currently ranked last in the league in terms of total offense.

The Texans have seen a major turnaround on defense after the addition of coordinator Wade Phillips.

The fifth-ranked scoring defense in the league should have little problems against the Jaguars.

San Francisco 49ers

It's pretty amazing what a difference a coaching change can make for a team.

With basically an identical roster from last year, the 49ers are suddenly one of the best teams in the NFL.

The team is well coached and disciplined on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

The defense is allowing just 16.2 points per game; an amount that totals second in the league. They also boast the second-best rushing defense.

That matchup is perfect for this weekend's game against the Cleveland Browns, who will rely heavily on their running game.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals have had one of the most impressive defenses early in the 2011 season.

The Ravens, 49ers and Steelers are the only teams currently allowing less points per game than Cincinnati.

This week the Bengals take on the Seattle Seahawks, who have barely edged out Jacksonville in the battle of the worst offense in the league.

This one should be a low-scoring event all around, but the Bengals should walk out with the better showing.
