Villarreal vs. Manchester City: Live Stream, Start Time and Schedule

Matt FaulconerOct 28, 2011

It took a goal in the 90th minute for Manchester City to take down Villarreal, 2-1, at Etihad Stadium the last time these teams met in the Champions League.

Both teams are stuck in the group of death, with the two clubs bringing up the rear right now.

The Spanish side has yet to pick up a point, while Manchester City can move into one of the top two spots with a victory.

Biggest Storyline: Will Villarreal finally pick up their first point?

Villarreal is all but eliminated from this competition if they fail to pick up a point in this match.

It's been quite disappointing for the La Liga club, who were hoping to stun the favorites and advance through the group stages.

It's not looking promising for Villarreal, who have really struggled to score in this competition.

Player to Watch for Villarreal: Diego Lopez

Lopez has faced 17 shots so far through the first three games of the Champions League. He has conceded six goals and will need to be in rare form if this team is going to have any chance of excelling in this match.

If he lets in any soft goals, his team will certainly be doomed, and will likely be in line for another defeat.

Player to Watch for Manchester City: Mario Balotelli

Balotelli has really come along in the past few months. He has scored five goals in the English Premier League for City this year, despite the fact that he has played in just five games for the club.

Carlos Tevez's shenanigans have opened for door for Balotelli, who is living up to expectations.

He has a chance to shine now on the big stage against Villarreal. If he registers another goal against the Yellow Submarine, he could find himself in line for a long career with City.

What They're Saying:

According to The Guardian, these two teams are beginning to develop a rivalry after Sergio Agüero prompted a confrontation in the teams' last meeting.

"

Sergio Agüero's post-match confrontation with Villarreal players was sparked when the Manchester City striker broke into song in the tunnel.

Witnesses to the flare-up have reported that Agüero's singing incensed the Spaniards as they made their way off the pitch at the end of the Champions League tie on Tuesday, suspecting that his winning goal, four minutes into stoppage time, had been offside.

Stewards had intervened a few moments earlier after the Villarreal players confronted the match officials and, with tempers flaring, they took offence to a smiling Agüero singing an unspecified song in Spanish, close to the door leading to the away dressing room. In the following confrontation, several of Agüero's team-mates came to his defence. Coaching staff pulled them away before the trouble escalated.

"

The Republic talks about how vital this match is for Villarreal's hopes for advancing to at least the Europa League.

"

Villarreal has lost all three Champions League games which makes Wednesday's match against City vital for it to have any chance of reaching the knockout stages of the European competition, or even to finish third in its group and progress to the Europa League.

"

Key Matchup: Villarreal defense vs. Manchester City attack

Villarreal gave up a last-minute goal, which cost them a chance at picking up a point in the team's last Champions League outing. They are going to need to tighten up if they want to come away with a victory the second time around against City.

Not only did they allow a last-minute goal, but they also scored an own goal earlier in the match. City did not play their best game in that match, so if their play improves, Villarreal is going to need to bring their A-game.

If their defense falters, this is going to be another disappointing defeat for them.
