NFL Week 8 Picks: Saints vs. Rams and Games to Bet over on

Michael DixonOct 29, 2011

The NFL has certainly seen its share of offense this year. Still, the way that the numbers are set, there is enough doubt in most games this week that the over/under mark will be hit.

Most, not all.

There are a few games where the offenses are not being given enough credit, or the defenses are being given far too much.

Those are the games we're looking at here.

Over/Under Numbers Courtesy of Bodog

New Orleans Saints vs. St. Louis Rams (O/U 48)

Honestly, 48 is far too low. The Saints torched that number on their own last week. I don't see that performance again, but I doubt we'll be too far from it. Whatever the Saints fail to get, the Rams will pick up the slack.

This one has blowout written all over it. The Rams will score enough to give the home fans something to cheer about and to easily go over the number of 48. But quite frankly, the Saints won't need much help.

Detroit Lions vs. Denver Broncos (O/U 41.5)

This game is similar in that I see the winning team nearly getting to the over/under number on their own. I just don't trust the Denver secondary when it comes to containing Calvin Johnson. The Broncos defense has just been bad this season.

When the Broncos have the ball, they will have some problems handling the Lions pass-rush. Still, I ultimately like Tim Tebow to move around enough and create a few opportunities for his team.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Carolina Panthers (O/U 47)

Unlike the first two games, I see the points in this game being far more evenly spread. But neither defense has impressed me at all this year.

I really like Cam Newton and Christian Ponder as rookie quarterbacks. Newton's accolades are obvious at this point, and Ponder did quite well in a loss to the Packers in his first start. He also has Adrian Peterson lining up behind him.

The Panthers should win this one, but the Vikings will keep it close and both teams will score a lot.

Predictions:

Saints 44, Rams 17

Lions 37, Broncos 14

Panthers 30, Vikings 24
