Pacquiao vs Marquez: Pac-Man Will Leave No Doubt in Defeating Dinamita

Josh MartinOct 28, 2011

If Juan Manuel Marquez didn't realize he'd be in trouble in the ring against Manny Pacquiao, then Pac-Man's latest comments about their upcoming fight should give Dinamita a bit of a wake-up call.

Marquez has personally claimed victory in each of their first two meetings, despite fighting to a draw with Pacquiao in 2004 and losing by split decision in 2008.

Pacquiao is well aware of Marquez's claims, as well as how far the Mexican welterweight has pushed him in the past, and he certainly isn't messing around as a result. Pacquiao spoke to Reuters on Wednesday about the bout before getting in the ring with trainer Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles:

"

"I have never been so motivated as I am for this fight. I almost can't wait for the fight. I want to prove that he [Marquez] was wrong in wearing that t-shirt claiming he won the last two fights. So this is kind of a special fight, the most important fight in my boxing career, because I want this fight to be the answer to all the doubts that have been raised."

"

Marquez wore that shirt, which read "We Were Robbed," while traveling around the Philippines promoting the fight alongside Pacquiao.

That gesture came as a slap in the face to Pacquiao, a fighter who needs no additional motivation, but as great as he is, figures to put that extra fuel to good use. Pacquiao has already been driven by the memory of his past encounters in the ring with Marquez, which have been uncomfortably close for arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Pacquiao's comments could very well be nothing more than gamesmanship, though the importance of this fight to his career cannot be understated. Marquez may not be as big of a name as Oscar De La Hoya or Shane Mosley, but beating him decisively would allow Pacquiao to boast a snarky t-shirt of his own.

Maybe "Bring It On" or "What Are You Waiting For?" Something calling out Floyd Mayweather Jr. for the fight that everyone and their mother have been waiting for.

For now, though, Pac-Man has no shortage of motivation to draw on in the days leading up to what is certain to be an explosive third fight with Dinamita.
