NFL Picks Week 8: Baltimore Ravens and 3 Heavy Favorites to Rely on

Michael DixonOct 29, 2011

In the NFL, anything more than a seven-point spread is pretty significant. Obviously, games that are decided by more than one touchdown happens all of the time, but it's still hard to predict that.

Still, there are some matchups that just scream blowout, or at least convincing win.

So, let's take a look at a couple of teams this week that will easily cover a big point spread.

New Orleans Saints (-14) at St. Louis Rams

The Saints do have to leave the comfort of the Superdome, but they don't have to go outside. Drew Brees and company will be playing indoors. Actually, the Saints are in a dome for all but one remaining game this season.

I don't know that we'll see another 62-7 blowout that we saw against the Colts. Those games just happen sometimes, but they aren't that common. Still, we'll know very early on who is going to win this one.

The Rams may be playing without Sam Bradford, and they wouldn't be able to win this one anyway. This one will be ugly.

Baltimore Ravens (-13) vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are terrible. They turn the ball over way too much, and allow way too much pressure and too many sacks to Kevin Kolb. They overpaid to get Kolb and are paying for it now.

The Baltimore offense certainly leaves a lot to be desired, but it won't matter here. They are at home against a team that's just not giving anyone a reason to be confident in them.

Look for the Ravens defense to carry them to an easy victory. Their offense won't impress anyone, but it won't need to for an easy win and cover.

San Francisco 49ers (-9) vs. Cleveland Browns

I know that the 49ers have played a lot of close games this year, but those were on the road against good teams. They have also destroyed a very good Buccaneers team at home.

They got an extra week to prepare for the Browns, who have just been inconsistent this year. Under Jim Harbaugh, everything about the 49ers has just been different.

Look for the 49ers defense to smother Colt McCoy, and the offense to be opportunistic en route to a blowout.
