Andre Johnson Injury: Week 8 Absence Gives You One More Chance to Buy Low

Tim KeeneyOct 28, 2011

As Houston Texans star wide receiver Andre Johnson gets closer to returning to NFL action, your buy-low window continues to shrink.

If you haven't already tried to obtain the former Miami stud for your fantasy team, you might have one more chance.

According to John Clayton (and hundreds of other analysts after him), Johnson will miss Week 8's tilt with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"Gary Kubiak decided to rule out Andre Johnson for a fourth consecutive game despite making progress recovering from hamstring injury," said Clayton via his Twitter account.

In real life, this is easily the smartest move for the Texans to make.

The Jaguars don't necessarily pose a huge threat on the road, Houston is currently at the top of a weak AFC South division and risking Andre to further injury isn't worth it at this point. He's much more important to them later in the season.

For fantasy purposes, this gives you one final shot to acquire the consensus first-round pick.

When Johnson comes back, he's going to be the No. 1 fantasy receiver for the rest of the year. And yes, that includes the other Johnson, Calvin.

Unless you want to give up your first born to get him, you need to go after AJ right now. His price is much more expensive than it was three weeks ago, but the chance to get the star is still there.

From here until the end of the fantasy regular season, Johnson and the Texans will face Tampa Bay and Atlanta, two teams in the bottom 10 of the NFL in defensive passing yards per attempt.

They also face Jacksonville twice, Cleveland and Cincinnati. Those teams have been pretty solid against the pass, but with the exception of maybe Joe Haden, don't have a corner that will be able to slow down Johnson.

But where Andre will really earn his value is in the fantasy playoffs.

Houston gets Carolina in Week 15 and Indianapolis in Week 16. He is single-handedly going to win lots of fantasy leagues this year with match-ups like that. And if your league uses Week 17, he gets Tennessee, another favorable matchup.

If you're worried about how Johnson will come back from his injury, remember that he played with a bad ankle for the majority of last year and still caught 86 balls for 1,216 yards in just 13 games.

The man is tough. Simple as that.

He was looking incredibly consistent before this year's injury, and he's likely to return to that form once he returns.

If you're the planning-ahead type, Johnson is one of the best buys out there. And you've been granted one more week to go for it.

Take advantage. Now
