Hope Solo: US Star Solo Stretching Herself Thin as National Team Comes Calling
If Hope Solo ever wanted to play the part of Supergirl, she is about to have a rousing audition for the role. She will need to split time as a world-class goalkeeper and TV star all at the same time.
Seattlepi.com reports Hope Solo has received the call. Like Batman picking up the red phone, she is mandated to answer it.
The best goalkeeper in the world has responsibilities that far exceed those mandated by Dancing with the Stars. National Team head coach Pia Sundhage has asked Solo to report for training for an upcoming friendly against Sweden, November 17th.
Now she will have to maneuver between her upcoming episodes on Dancing with the Stars and training sessions with the national side. Both are extremely taxing on the body and mind.
Solo has been increasingly frustrated with the judges on DWTS. Despite some good scores, she has been stagnant in improving her performances. The panel has made no secret of their criticisms. Solo has received them with many an eye roll.
It can only get worse as she now has to answer two masters in the coming weeks. The next show is Monday, if she does well and fails to get eliminated, she will need to find time to be a top-shelf keeper and national sensation on a hit show.
The obvious feeling is that something has to give. I have all the confidence in the world in Solo as a keeper. She proved to be the leader we all thought she could be in this summer's World Cup.
There is no doubt that the team needs her, even in a match that is labeled as a friendly. These are the matches where chemistry and form are built as the team heads into more pressing matches on the schedule.
It may not mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but football is her love and passion. And she means a great deal to the team as the key cog on defense.
That being said, she made a commitment to ABC that she simply cannot get out of. For the span of a couple weeks, she needs to be a super hero of sorts, forced to be in two places at once, and on top of her game in both respects.
Is Hope Solo superhuman? We are about to get that answer shortly. My answer is that she is only human. Her dancing may suffer, and I can hardly fault her for that.
The only thing we can ever ask of her is to be the best goalie in the world. That should be enough for now.
