WWE WrestleMania 2000: Top 5 Reasons the Event Was Not Very Good

Justin WatryOct 28, 2011

A few days ago, I said that WrestleMania X-7 was overrated. Trust me! I loved the show. It was an epic night for the company, but it just had too weak of an undercard to ignore.

A year earlier, WWE produced a WrestleMania event that was just plain "blah." The year 2000 may be the greatest year in the company's history. Maybe! The only thing against it is just how much I did not enjoy this show...

UPDATE: I have finally created a Twitter account! For those who are interested, feel free to search my name and add/follow me!

5. No One-on-One Matches

1 of 5

There was not a single match that was a simple one-on-one bout. Yes, the Kat vs. Terri had a "gimmicked up battle royal type thingy" with Val Venis as the special guest referee, but I am talking about a straight up match.

Not a single battle between two competitors without all the smokes and mirrors! That is just terrible. This is WrestleMania! No big grudges to settle? No man-to-man battle? Nothing...

4. Too Many Tag Team Matches

2 of 5

Let me just name the tag team matches here:

1. D'Lo Brown and the Godfather vs. Bossman and Bull Buchanan

2. Al Snow and Steve Blackman vs. Test and Albert

3. Triangle Ladder Match: Edge and Christian vs. Dudleyz vs. Hardyz

4. Chyna and Too Cool vs. Eddie Guerrero, Perry Saturn, and Dean Malenko

5. X Pac and Road Dogg vs. Kane and Rikishi

Excuse me, but what are some of these matches doing on the card? I am fine with the ladder match; it was a great match. The others? Nothing but filler...way too many people involved here!

3. California Crowd

3 of 5

I am not from the West Coast. I live in Wisconsin, so I can't comment on how California is.

However, I can comment on the live audience some 11 years ago. They were dreadful. Maybe my audio was bad that night? Maybe when I bought the video years later the audio was bad again? Or maybe not...

Outside of a few moments, the crowd was there just to be "there." I am not even going to comment on the celebrities all being there. That is cool; it just seemed like watching an LA Lakers basketball game.

People showed up to be noticed, instead of going to enjoy one of the biggest events in the world.

2. The Main Event "Hype"

4 of 5

Let me explain all of this to you. At the Royal Rumble, Triple H beat Cactus Jack to retain the world title. On the same night, The Rock won the Rumble match to earn a title shot at WrestleMania.

Seems fair to me so far!

Then we get Big Show saying The Rock's feet hit the ground first at the Rumble, and The Big Show should get the title match instead. Now the mess really begins...

At No Way Out, Big Show beat Rock to earn the title match, while Triple H retired Mick Foley in the main event. Big Show vs. Triple H as the main event of WrestleMania 2000?

Nope! A few weeks later on Raw, Rocky beat Big Show to earn the title match back again. Well, that was changed the next SmackDown episode. Big Show was added to the match to make it a triple threat match at 'Mania. Still with me?

It is still not over. Then they held that triple threat match on a Raw episode days later! With two weeks to go before the big event, we had no main event! Well, Mick Foley was brought out to make it a fatal four way elimination match at WrestleMania 2000 for the world title.

Add in a McMahon in every corner, and you have one giant mess with only ONE WEEK to go! That is just absurd. Think about all of that...

1. The Ending

5 of 5

I am of the belief that a face should win the main event of WrestleMania. It is just how a story should go.

I do not care about it being "too predictable." Or swerving fans? Save it for another night, not at WrestleMania! Come on...

Don't we all know Batman is going to get the bad guy in the end? Most romantic comedies end with a happy couple, right? Yet, these movies make millions month after month. We all watch for the conclusion, which should be that good triumphs evil.

I am a big fan of Triple H. I love Vince McMahon on the air, Rocky should have won here. 'Mania should end with fireworks going, and the fans cheering. Plain and simple.

The worst part? Rock got the title four weeks later anyways, so it's not like Triple H was planned to be some long-term champion for the next six months. Just like when a heel Orton retained at WrestleMania 24, he lost it weeks later. Just like a heel Miz retaining this year at WM 27; he lost it a month later.

Just doesn't make sense! I did not like the cluster ending with the McMahons. I just didn't. Do not even get me started on the ending of a certain PPV two weeks ago!

The good guy wins in the end. That has been the story for generations and generations. Just as it will be for another five million years, the good overcomes the evil in the end, and there is no bigger stage than a WrestleMania event.
