Week 8 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Philip Rivers and More Stars to Sit

Michael DixonOct 28, 2011

In bye weeks—especially in deep leagues—you generally can't afford to be too picky. Between byes and injuries, there is just generally a shortage of star players to go with if you bench a star.

Still, it doesn't mean that some stars shouldn't be benched. If you happen to have any of these players on your team, or teams, you must at least consider leaving them on the bench.

Rivers is still one of the game's best passers, but he has fallen flat this year. He turns the ball over way too much and isn't throwing for nearly enough yards to make up for it.

Also, unlike most players this week, Rivers has some precedent. In Week 3, he turned the ball over three times and didn't throw a single touchdown pass against the Chiefs.

That game was in San Diego, this week is in Kansas City. The Chiefs weren't playing anywhere near as well then as they are now, either.

I don't like Rivers to do much. At a position that usually only requires one player, Rivers can and should be benched.

LeSean McCoy

The Cowboys defense has done a decent job against running backs this year, and the Eagles tend to get a little pass-happy at times.

McCoy's best game this year came when the Eagles were well ahead and decided to run the ball. That can apply to just about every game they have played this year, but I don't see that happening against Dallas.

Look for a pass-heavy attack from Michael Vick and the Eagles on Sunday.

Basically, I have absolutely no confidence in the Miami offense to do anything of note. That includes Marshall.

However, if you're in a PPR league, I will say that Marshall is probably worth a play. If you're not, he's just not a reliable enough option to go for enough yards or touchdowns to be worth a play.

Marshall has only one touchdown this year, which came in the second week of the season. Don't expect that to change.
