NHL Videos: The 10 Best Fights of October

Brian RoachOct 28, 2011

The NHL allows fighting at least once or twice in any game, and in October 2011, that has not changed. There are 10 fights that stood out to me. NHL video has even allowed a YouTube channel called hockeyfightsdotcom so anyone can see the fights that have been posted in October.

Some may not have the views, but as the countdown gets towards the top, the views will be climbing towards the one million mark.

The fight is the best part about the game of hockey, and in the NHL it is key to the success of the franchise.

10. Cody Bass vs. Patrick Kaleta Oct 27, 2011

1 of 10

In this fight, Kaleta and Bass were at it early and it was a great matchup to watch. Both players put up a good fight and Bass dragged Kaleta to the ground after getting hit. The refs had to step in and stop them in the 0-0 game in the first period.

9. Raffi Torres vs. Luca Sbisa Oct 23, 2011

2 of 10

Torres and Sbisa both were able to throw some punches in this fight, and it was definitely a draw in my book. Both fell to the ice in the end and landed some punches to the face and head of their opponent.

8. Steve Downie vs. Patrick Kaleta Oct 25, 2011

3 of 10

Kaleta had this one in the bag while wailing on Downie for at least 10 seconds, but Downie started fighting back and won this fight by taking Kaleta to the ground.

7. Brandon Prust vs. Tanner Glass Oct 24, 2011

4 of 10

With only 1:55 gone in the game, Glass and Prust got into it and neither player wanted to give up. Glass got a big punch on Prust in the final seconds, but neither player went down, and the refs just ended the fight after about 40 seconds.

6. Brandon Prust vs. Kyle Clifford Oct 7, 2011

5 of 10

This fight was great. Both players just kept hitting one another in the head and Clifford used his long arms to keep Prust at bay. Prust ultimately took down Clifford, but the fight went on for a good 30 seconds as they kept going in circles.

5. Steve Downie vs. Erik Gudbranson Oct 15, 2011

6 of 10

Gudbranson easily won this fight. He hit Downie solidly with several uppercuts in the face, and although Downie got his punches in, he could not hit Gudbranson with authority.

4. Douglas Murray vs. Eric Boulton Oct 21, 2011

7 of 10

Boulton leveled Murray in this fight, but Murray is a skater more than a fighter.

3. Cam Janssen vs. Brian McGrattan Oct 15, 2011

8 of 10

McGrattan was nailing Janssen with an array of punches, but Janssen would not give up. This fight lasted about two minutes, with both men were still throwing punches even though they were tired.

2. Jay Harrison vs. Zdeno Chara Oct 18, 2011

9 of 10

Chara stood up to Harrison and Harrison took on Chara with some spunk of his own. Tuuka Rask came out of his goal to take on Cam Ward, but that did not escalate into a full-fledged fight. This fight had everything and then some.

1. Jay Beagle vs. Arron Asham Oct 13, 2011

10 of 10

Beagle had this fight in the bag with multiple hits to Asham, but Asham got his gloves off and hit him twice in the jaw which sent Beagle to the ground. Beagle was bleeding and was down for a couple of minutes. Asham gets the win for the best fight in October 2011.
