WWE: 7 Ways Brodus Clay Can Make a Big Impact

Robert AitkenOct 28, 2011

In about a week and a half, it is believed that Brodus Clay will debut once again in WWE. Clay, if you recall, was the runner-up in the fourth season of NXT, losing the season to Johnny Curtis. Curtis went on to seldom be seen, while the rest of the roster would end up appearing on NXT Redemption. Clay is the only true standout of that season's rookies thus far. Clay was aligned with Alberto Del Rio, his final pro, and stayed by his side as he feuded with Edge and Christian into Extreme Rules.

After that night, Clay was not seen on WWE television, as he was off filming a movie. Clay has since returned over the summer to appear in squash matches on Superstars. After participating in a few of those matches to show his strength off, Clay was featured in vignettes on both RAW and Smackdown. Clay sits on the Smackdown brand for now, but is rumored to be moved to the RAW brand. Clay is believed to return to WWE programming on the week of November 7, less than two weeks shy of Survivor Series.

Fans are already jumping on the Brodus Clay bandwagon after being impressed on NXT and the Del Rio/Edge feud. The fact that he already has a movie through WWE Studios also speaks to the attitude WWE has about Clay. This guy is going to be given chances to thrive, but how he starts back out is important. Here are seven good and unique ways for Brodus Clay to make a statement on his first night back, wherever that may be.

Re-Align with Alberto Del Rio

1 of 7

Why not just go back to where it all started? Alberto Del Rio is now a world champion and has a big match with CM Punk at Survivor Series that is all but confirmed. Del Rio only has his luck, which is running out, and ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez, who suffered such a terrible black eye from Big Show that it is still bad. The WWE Champion needs some backup if he wants to keep his title through upcoming big events like Survivor Series, Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. Clay is one of the few guys who will not only align with Del Rio, but do a good job of it.

Sure, Del Rio sort of tossed Clay aside after being drafted to RAW, but bonds can be repaired, especially if Del Rio takes on a Million Dollar Man-type of mentality about it. It would also be grounds for a reunion, only to have Clay turn face and feud with Del Rio.

Seek Revenge on Christian

2 of 7

Christian is the superstar that took Brodus Clay out at Extreme Rules when we last saw him in a predominant role.

Clay really did take a good shot and was dripping blood while on the ground.

WWE could make a case with that and have Clay be on a mean streak searching for Christian. It would keep Christian and his claims of "one more match" at bay, and knock Sheamus out of that storyline and onto bigger things. Christian is a fantastic worker that can get Clay over as a monster, even if it is a monster face.

Have Mark Henry as a Mentor

3 of 7

Tell me you can't see the same tendencies between these two. This matchup seems almost so perfect that it's probably unlikely. Henry can use Clay as some backup, especially with big faces like Big Show, Sheamus and Randy Orton all threatening for his world title.

Clay can be molded (no pun intended) into being just like Mark Henry's character as Henry's long-time tenure with WWE may be coming to an end if a serious injury comes his way. Clay is the future, and it would be smart for WWE to embrace that by having him being taught on the job.

Feud with Big Show

4 of 7

If you liked Mark Henry and Big Show's match from Vengeance, just imagine if you replace Henry with a man who is just as big, but is nine years younger. Clay could easily take on Big Show and, with their collective size and strength, put on one heck of a show.

Want to get a young giant over as an athletic big man? Have him in a feud with one of the most athletic big men in wrestling history. Even today, Big Show can still go with the best of them. It would be a clear passing of the torch, similar to how this Randy Orton/Cody Rhodes feud is shaping up.

Attack Sin Cara

5 of 7

I can't actually give a rhyme or reason for this, but it just seems like something I would be on board with.

Sin Cara needs to be getting tired of fighting his evil twin and other guys that are right around 200 pounds. Getting into a feud with Brodus Clay would likely do both men good. Clay's squash matches have all been with men that are the size of Sin Cara, so he can attack the masked wrestler with ease and show his might on his re-debut.

A Clay/Sin Cara feud would certainly be interesting. It could have the David vs Goliath feel to it that was usually the bread and butter of another masked little guy: Rey Mysterio. Sin Cara can make his legend grow by slaying the mighty Clay, while Clay can get good heat from destroying the uber-popular Sin Cara.

Be Michael Cole's Enforcer

6 of 7

This one is kind of funny for me to say, but it would kind of work.

Brodus Clay was Snoop Dogg's bodyguard, and he can do the same for Michael Cole.

Clay isn't expected to debut until early November. Imagine that Cole loses his "Michael Cole Challenge" next week to Jim Ross. The defeat would give Ross his spot back and Cole would quit WWE. Going back on his promise, Cole would look to come back to WWE, drawing more heat.

Upon coming back, he enlists the services of Clay to attack Jim Ross and be his one-man posse. Crazier things have happened. After all, Jack Swagger was once this guy for Cole.

Join a Survivor Series Team

7 of 7

This seems the most tame of any of the options, but Brodus Clay in a traditional match at Survivor Series would do him some good. It would put him in multiple possible feuds branching off of the match, because what he is capable of doing in the match is so unknown by many wrestling fans. Just look at the Bragging Rights match last year, which saw a random return by Ezekiel Jackson. Tyler Reks was put, rather randomly, into a Survivor Series match last year.

Brodus is a big body and desirable for a heel team at Survivor Series. He could even have a return similar to Mason Ryan's a few weeks ago, when Ryan appeared to be a heel, but showed face tendencies. The sky is the limit for Brodus Clay to make an impact and Survivor Series certainly embodies that ideal. Just look at The Rock's WWE debut 15 years ago at Survivor Series, when he was the sole survivor.
