NFL Week 8 Picks: Browns vs. 49ers and More Surefire Blowouts

Michael DixonOct 27, 2011

Upsets can always happen. Still, at this point of the season, we have a pretty good way of being able to predict what's going to happen.

Weather isn't a big factor and teams are still playing their best players, which they may not do with nothing to play for at the end of the year.

These three games just have blowout written all over them. Of course, anything can and often does happen in the NFL. But there's really nothing about these games to suggest that they will be close.

Lions at Broncos

I know that the hype around these two teams is moving in a different direction. The Broncos are riding high after Tim Tebow's fourth-quarter miracle against the Dolphins, while the Lions have now dropped two home games in a row.

But the fact of the matter is, that the Lions are just a much better team than the Broncos. I am not a Tebow basher, but he doesn't have the team to play with the Lions here.

The Broncos defense just doesn't match up well with with the Lions offense.

Saints at Rams

Who in the NFL did the Rams annoy to get this early season schedule? They have been given absolutely no break at any time this year?

In Week 8, they get the Saints. The same Saints that just put up 62 points on another winless opponent.

This game is in St. Louis, but in a dome, which plays right into the hands of Drew Brees and their electrifying offense. This one will get ugly.

Browns at 49ers

The 49ers are playing excellent football this year. I know that they have won a lot of close games, but there is a different vibe around this team than we've seen in a while.

The Browns are okay. I am not expecting a 48-3 whitewashing like we saw when the 49ers dropped Tampa Bay, but this one will not be close.

Colt McCoy will have a hard time getting the ball into the end zone against Patrick Willis and the 49ers defense. Offensively, the 49ers won't dominate, but they will be opportunistic and do more than enough.

Predictions:

Lions 37, Broncos 14

Saints 44, Rams 17

49ers 30, Browns 9
