Navy vs. Notre Dame: Last-Minute Spread Info, Line, BCS Impact and Predictions

Andrew KulhaOct 27, 2011

There can be no denying that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team is having an exceptionally disappointing season, but a win over the Navy Midshipmen would go a long way towards fixing some of the bad feelings from their loss last weekend.

They took a very bad loss to rival team USC 31-17 last weekend, so this game against 2-5 Navy has to be classified in the must-win category.

Simply put, there is no way that the Irish should lose this game at home. In fact, if they do lose it's going to point to a very large problem in paradise.

The Midshipmen aren't just going to lie down and let the Irish beat them up though, so I expect a very intense and close game.

Where: Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame, IN

When: Saturday Oct. 29. 3:30 p.m, ET

Watch: NBC

Spread: Notre Dame -21

After last week's loss I wouldn't be surprised if the Irish came out firing.

Over/Under: 62

Both teams are averaging around 30 points per game, but I still wouldn't be betting the over.

Key Injuries

Navy: Linebacker Matt Brewer questionable (neck), running back Darius Staten questionable (concussion), quarterback Kriss Proctor doubtful (elbow), cornerback David Wright (heel).

Notre Dame: Quarterback Tommy Rees probable (knee), long snapper Jordon Cowart questionable (hand), defensive end Ethan Johnson doubtful (ankle), defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore out for season (knee).

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

Their BCS is almost out of the question, if not fully out of the picture.

Keys to Navy Win

With quarterback Kriss Proctor most likely not playing with an elbow injury, the offense will be firmly in the hands of sophomore Trey Miller. Miller is 7-of-14 for 172 yards and two touchdowns this year. Needless to say, we will be getting a much bigger sample of him.

Keys to Notre Dame Win

Receiver Michael Floyd is the key to this team, and to be honest so far he has been disappointing with only four touchdowns. I expect him to at least get half that touchdown production this week.

Prediction

Simply put, Notre Dame cannot lose this game.
