NFL Predictions Week 8: Houston Texans and More Teams on Upset Alert

Michael DixonOct 27, 2011

I can't remember the last time we saw a week go by with no upsets. Especially in a parity-driven league, they are prevalent.

Now, I am not predicting an upset from these games. As a matter of fact, I am predicting the favored team will win. However, all of the favored teams have given us enough of a reason to doubt them. Conversely, the underdogs have given us a reason to think that they can win.

If there is any kind of sloppy play from the favored teams this week, we'll see upsets.

Buffalo Bills (-6.0 vs. Washington Redskins)

Here's the funny thing with this game. Both the Bills and Redskins have shown us some really good football this season, but both have also been quite flat at times.

The Bills are the better team, and the Redskins are beginning to slide in a big way, but they are still on the edge of contention in the NFC East. Don't be surprised to see them come out strong this week to keep their hopes alive, even if only for one more week.

At home (in Toronto, anyway), I like the Bills' chances. Still, they need to be on alert and play a clean game. If they don't, they will be upset.

Houston Texans (-10.0 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars)

The Jaguars just showed us they can play very good defense when called upon. I know the offense did very little, but the defense was stellar.

Also, never underestimate what getting a win can do for a young quarterback. I know Blaine Gabbert didn't lead a single touchdown drive, but a win is a win and confidence is a big thing.

Now, I do think the Texans are the better team. At home, they are more than likely going to win this game, but they have left a little to be desired this year, so don't be surprised if you see an upset.

San Diego Chargers (-4.0 at Kansas City Chiefs)

It's amazing to think the Chiefs are 3-3. They started the year 0-3, but haven't lost since losing to the Chargers in Week 3.

Since then, they have beaten weak opponents in the Vikings and Colts, but now have a lot of confidence after a 28-0 blowout of the Raiders in Oakland.

Now, they get the Chargers in Kansas City.

Again, the Chargers are the more talented team, but they are playing very sloppy football this year. I think they'll win, but any slips and the Chiefs will take this one.
