Notre Dame Football: A Tribute to the Late Declan Sullivan

Oct. 27 is a date that anyone and everyone associated with Notre Dame Football will never forget.

On that cold, blustery day one year ago, former student videographer Declan Sullivan tragically passed away.

Sullivan was videotaping Notre Dame's football practice, perched atop a mobile video tower. Because of the rapid winds on that day, the video tower toppled over, killing Sullivan on impact.

That moment marked, perhaps, the darkest day in the university's history.

One year has passed since that fateful day, but Declan's life has certainly been honored. 

Declan's family, along with help from Notre Dame, started the Declan Drumm Sullivan Memorial Fund to memorialize his life.

Also, to raise awareness about Declan's life, his family created a website in his name.

It is on that site that one can pore over the heartfelt words that his loving parents used to describe their late son's life.

"On October 27th, 2010 our family lost Declan Drumm Sullivan in a tragic accident on the University of Notre Dame campus in South Bend, IN. Declan loved Notre Dame. He felt privileged to have a role with the football program videotaping games and practices. The grief we feel is tempered by the knowledge that Dec was doing what he loved in the place he most wanted to be."

Obviously, Declan had a tremendous passion and love for Notre Dame that will forever live on in the hearts and minds of Notre Dame Nation.
