Terrell Owens' Alleged Suicide Attempt Will Hamper WR's Return to NFL

Wes ODonnellOct 27, 2011

Terrell Owens is desperately trying to make a resurgent NFL comeback.

Unfortunately, things aren't going very well.

The receiver was reportedly hospitalized on Oct. 6 for a possible pain pill overdose.

According to TMZ, that particular instance could have been a suicide attempt.

The actual 911 call can be heard here and you can audibly hear his assistant answer the operator's question of, "Is this a suicide attempt?" as "Yes, I believe so."

Owens' assistant is then prompted about whether he (Owens) is talking and she said he was talking to "his girlfriend, ex-girlfriend...I don't know what you wanna call it." She then paused and said, "This is kinda what, uhh...I don't know."

A lot could be inferred from that, but what we do know is that Owens wasn't in the right frame of mind to handle himself.

The receiver held an open workout in California this week but no NFL teams were present. A lot has been said about the workout, but the only offer he has received came from an AFL team.

That is not where Owens wants to be and that is not where Owens is going to go.

His workout certainly wasn't terrible, but he isn't in football shape just yet.

He was visibly tired, he was limping between segments, and his speed and explosion weren't all there yet.

And this bit of news, although not something entirely new as Owens had a similar scare in 2006, is only going to further push teams away.

The receiver does not have a great track record off the field and in the locker room, and if he is not all there mentally no team is going to take a chance.

Owens is still a ways away from joining any NFL team, and this could push them even further away.
