Week 8 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Eric Decker and More Must-Sit Wide Receivers

Patrick ClarkeOct 27, 2011

Wide receivers, unlike quarterbacks and running backs, are rarely the key to dominating fantasy leagues.

Often times, it's the right combination of consistent wideouts that produce the best fantasy results, rather than a superstar receiver who can't always be counted on.

Here are three receivers that you will want to avoid in Week 8, regardless of their production thus far:

Eric Decker

Decker has quickly emerged as one of the league's more talented downfield threats.

Unfortunately, Tim Tebow has taken over quarterback duties for the Denver Broncos, which has and will continue to hurt the 24-year-old's production.

Decker has been dropped by many fantasy owners in the past few weeks and has scored just two total fantasy points in his last two outings with Denver.

Deion Branch

With Tom Brady and the Pats looking to spread out the Steelers D on Sunday, one would expect to see lots of receivers involved. However, look for the dominant tight ends to reel in many of Brady's passes.

Following the Pats' first two games, Branch has had a minimal impact this season. He has just 11 catches in New England's past four games.

Torrey Smith

The Ravens wide receiver is only owned in about one-fourth of ESPN fantasy leagues, and for good reason.

Smith has been shut down since his insane Week 3 performance in St. Louis. The rookie receiver has just seven catches in his past three games for Baltimore, and hasn't scored a touchdown in that time.
