Week 8 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Ben Roethlisberger and More Must-Start Quarterbacks

Patrick ClarkeOct 27, 2011

The smell of NFL Week 8 is in the air, and that signals crunch time in many fantasy leagues around the globe.

Several superstars and unknown gems alike have favorable matchups this weekend, but we're going to focus solely on quarterbacks.

All of those fantasy owners with Aaron Rodgers are scratching their heads wondering which quarterback to start in his place in Week 8. Others are just looking for a point-scoring answer to fill their roster spot with this week.

Here are three quarterbacks destined to break out in week 8, making them must-starts.

Ben Roethlisberger

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger lit up the Cardinals defense last week, torching them for 32 fantasy points in ESPN leagues.

Although the veteran QB has had his fair share of struggles in 2011, he's going up against a horrid pass defense in New England.

Pittsburgh will also be at home in this game. Not to mention they have speedster Mike Wallace, and the third highest scoring wide receiver in ESPN fantasy leagues is ready to provide a target for Big Ben.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

From a fantasy perspective, Ryan Fitzpatrick has been more productive than Roethlisberger in 2011, but still, the Buffalo QB is only owned in 90 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues.

The Redskins' pass defense is no joke of course, but just look what Cam Newton did to them at home last week.

Fitzpatrick and the Bills are coming off a bye week and an extra week of preparation for the Redskins pass rushers.

Buffalo and its explosive offense at home makes Fitzpatrick a must-start in Week 8.

First off, if you started Matt Hasselbeck last week, I feel very sorry for you.

But you can rest assured that your roster spot was not completely wasted, because this week, Hasselbeck and the Titans host the winless Colts, who surrendered 62 points on the road in Week 7.

Not surprisingly, Hasselbeck is only owned in roughly 57 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues, making him an easy pick up this week.

If Chris Johnson continues to stall out on the ground for Tennessee, Hasselbeck will have an extraordinary day through the air.
