Week 8 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Knowshon Moreno and Other RBs You Must Sit

Ryan PhillipsOct 27, 2011

Knowshon Moreno is slated to start for the Denver Broncos this week, as Willis McGahee will be sidelined with a hand injury. Despite the fact that he will get the starting nod, Moreno is one of three running backs who shouldn't be in your fantasy lineup for Week 8.

Despite receiving a ton of hype when he entered the NFL out of Georgia, Moreno has never really delivered on his potential. So far in four games this season, he has just 54 yards on 17 carries, while adding 92 more yards and a touchdown on eight receptions.

This weekend, Moreno will face one of the best defensive lines in football, as the Broncos go toe-to-toe with the Detroit Lions. While the Lions have allowed 129.4 rushing yards per game, I see them tightening things up considerably this weekend against a Denver offense led by Tim Tebow. The focus for this game for Detroit will be stopping the run and limiting Tebow's scrambling ability.

That's bad news for Moreno and anyone who owns him in a fantasy league. You should definitely sit him.

Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis is another guy who probably shouldn't enter your lineup this week. After taking first-team reps at practice on Wednesday, the Madden 12 cover boy was held out of Thursday's practice because of soreness in his injured hamstring.

This is bad news for Hillis owners, since he was originally expected to see 20-25 touches in the Browns' Week 8 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers. While that is still a possibility, it is clear that Hillis is not yet 100 percent, and combining that with San Francisco's second-ranked run defense (allowing just 74.7 yards per game) equals bad news for Hillis owners.

You should probably wait at least another week for Hillis to finally have his breakout game. If you have another option at running back, go with it.

New Orleans Saints rookie running back Mark Ingram has been decent this season so far, but now he is limited with a heel injury and was held out of practice on Wednesday. While he may end up seeing the field on Sunday, it is unlikely the Saints will risk his health, considering their opponent is the 0-6 St. Louis Rams.

It won't take a full effort for the Saints to beat the Rams, and even if Ingram is active, it is likely that Darren Sproles will split carries with Pierre Thomas in his place.

New Orleans should have a big enough lead early that they can put things in cruise control after halftime, meaning Ingram isn't likely to see much action. Sit him and go with another option.
