Fantasy Football Week 8 Rankings: Who Are the Top QBs?

Chris TrapassoOct 27, 2011

Is Tom Brady a top fantasy quarterback this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers' second-ranked pass defense?

He has got to be one of the best options at the quarterback position, right?

These are my top five quarterbacks this week.

1. Drew Brees

The Saints' game against the Rams should be another blowout, and we saw what Brees did against the Colts last week. It's likely New Orleans runs the football more against the worst-run defense, but it's hard to bet against Brees after his five-touchdown game in Week 7.

2. Cam Newton

Newton has been a fantasy stud this season, especially because of his ability to score on foot. The Vikings' pass defense is ranked 29th in the league, and the rookie signal caller should have no issue finding Steve Smith early and often.

3. Mike Vick

The Cowboys have a very good defense that is led by defensive mastermind Rob Ryan. For the Eagles to compete in this one, they'll need to hit the big play and will have to gain yards by scrambling outside of the pocket. It'll be a shootout in Philly.

4. Tom Brady

Historically, Brady has played well against the Steelers, and it hasn't mattered how well Pittsburgh's defense has been playing entering the game. He'll find Wes Welker throughout and will have great red zone targets in Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. Even if he has a "bad" game by his standards, he'll likely put up solid fantasy numbers.

Manning faces a defense that was great against Tim Tebow for 55 minutes, then made the second-year quarterback look like John Elway during Denver's improbable comeback. The Giants are more healthy off the bye and have a ton of weapons on the outside. Don't sleep on tight end Jake Ballard, either.
